I'll go out with my father into the field where you are hiding. I'll talk about you with my father and we'll see what he says. Then I'll report back to you."

Be on your guard in the morning and hide in a secret place and stay there. ² Yonatan told David, saying, Sha'ul my father seeks to kill you: now therefore, please take care of yourself in the morning, and live in a secret place, and hide yourself:

² But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself: ² So Jonathan informed David, saying, "My father Saul is trying to kill you; now please take care! In the morning you should stay in the hiding place and conceal yourself. ² And Jonathan told David, "Saul my father seeks to kill you. Therefore be on your guard in the morning. Stay in a secret place and hide yourself. ² So he warned David, "My father Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. Watch out in the morning. Hide in a secret place. ² So Jonathan told David, "My father Saul is trying to kill you. So be careful tomorrow morning. Find a hiding place and stay in seclusion. ² So he told David, "Saul my father is seeking to kill you. Now then, please be on guard in the morning, and stay in a secret place and hide yourself.² So Jonathan informed David, saying, "My father Saul is seeking to put you to death. Now then, please be on your guard in the morning, and stay in a hiding place and conceal yourself.² And Ionathan told Dauid, saying, Saul my father goeth about to slay thee: nowe therefore, I pray thee, take heede vnto thy selfe vnto the morning, & abide in a secret place, & hide thy selfe.² So Jonathan told David saying, "Saul my father is seeking to put you to death. So now, please be careful in the morning, and stay in a secret place and hide yourself.^2-3 and he warned David, "My father is trying to have you killed, so be very careful. Hide in a field tomorrow morning, and I'll bring him there. Then I'll talk to him about you, and if I find out anything, I'll let you know." ² he told him, "My father Sha'ul is out to have you killed. Therefore you must be very cautious tomorrow morning. Find a well-concealed place to hide in.

² But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David. And Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeks to kill thee; and now, I pray thee, take heed to thyself in the morning, and abide in a secret place and hide thyself;^2-3 so he warned him. "Be careful! Saul is looking for a chance to kill you. In the morning go into the field and hide. I will go out into the field with my father. We will stand in the field where you are hiding. I will talk to my father about you, and I will tell you what I learn."² But Jonathan, Sauls son, was delighted much in David; and Jonathan spoke to David, saying, Saul my father seeks to kill you; now therefore take heed to yourself, and sit in a secret place and hide yourself; ² and so he told him, "My father is trying to kill you. Please be careful tomorrow morning; hide in some secret place and stay there. ² And Saul's son Jonathan delighted exceedingly in David. And Jonathan told David, saying, My father Saul is seeking to kill you. And, now, please be on guard in the morning, and you shall stay in the secret place, and shall hide.² Neuerthelesse Ionathas the sonne of Saul loued Dauid exceadingly, and tolde him, and sayde: Saul my father goeth aboute to slaye the. "Tomorrow morning," he warned him, "you must find a hiding place out in the fields. ² So Jonathan told David, "My father Saul wants to kill you. I beg you, be careful in the morning. Stay hidden in a secret place. ² Jonathan told David, "My father Saul is trying to kill you; therefore be on guard tomorrow morning; stay in a secret place and hide yourself. ² but, Jonathan, Saul's son, delighted in David, exceedingly, - so Jonathan told David, saying, Saul, my father, is seeking to put thee to death, - now, therefore, take heed to thyself I pray thee, in the morning, and abide thou in concealment, and hide thyself;² And Jonathan told David, saying: Saul, my father, seeketh to kill thee: wherefore look to thyself, I beseech thee, in the morning and thou shalt abide in a secret place, and shalt be hid.² And Jonathan told David, "Saul my father seeks to kill you; therefore take heed to yourself in the morning, stay in a secret place and hide yourself;² and Jonathan son of Saul delighted in David exceedingly, and Jonathan declares [it] to David, saying, "My father Saul is seeking to put you to death, and now, please take heed in the morning, and you have abided in a secret place and been hidden,² So Jonathan told David saying, "Saul my father is seeking to put you to death. Now therefore, please be on guard in the morning, and stay in a secret place and hide yourself.³ I’ll go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are and talk to him about you. When I see what he says, I’ll tell you.”^(C1)

³ And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee. ³ I will go out and stand at my father's side^[b] in the field where you are, and I will speak about you to my father; if I find out anything^[c] I will tell it to you." ³ And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak to my father about you. And if I learn anything I will tell you." ³ I will go out and stand with my father in the field where you are hiding, and I'll talk to him about you. Then I'll let you know what I find out." ³ I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are. I will speak about you to my father. When I find out what the problem is, I will let you know."³ "As for me, I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak with my father about you, and ^(C1)if I learn anything, then I will tell you."³ "And as for me, I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are hiding, and I will speak with my father about you; and ^(C1)whatever I ^(F1)find out, I will tell you."³ And I will go out, and stand by my father in the fielde where thou art, and will commune with my father of thee, & I will see what he sayth, and will tell thee.³ "And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak with my father about you; ^(C1)what I ^(F1)perceive, I will tell you." ³ I will go out and stand next to my father in the countryside where you're hiding. I will talk with my father about you; and if I learn anything, I'll tell you."

³ and I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and will speak of thee with my father: and see what it is, and tell thee.³ And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak to my father concerning you; and I will see what is on his mind, and I will tell you. ³ I will go and stand by my father in the field where you are hiding, and I will speak to him about you. And I will speak of you to my father, and shall see what it is , and will tell you.³ But I wyll go forth, and stonde besyde my father in the felde where thou art, and wyll speake of the vnto my father: and what soeuer I se I shal brynge the worde. ³ and I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and if I see aught, I will tell thee. ³ And I will go out and take my place by my father's side in the field near where you are; and I will get into talk with my father about you, and when I see how things are, I will give you word.³ And I wyll go out, and stande by my father in the fielde where thou art, and wyll commune with my father of thee, and whatsoeuer I see, I wyll tell thee.³ And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will speak with my father of thee; and if I see aught, I will tell thee.' ³ And I will goe out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee, and what I see, that I will tell thee. ³ And I will go forth, and stand near my father in the field where thou shalt be, and I will speak concerning thee to my father; and I will see what his answer may be, and I will tell thee. ³ and I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and if I see aught, I will tell thee. ³ I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, so I can ask about you. ⁴ Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul. He said to him: “The king should not sin against his servant David.^(C1) He hasn’t sinned against you; in fact, his actions have been a great advantage to you. ⁴ Yonatan spoke good of David to Sha'ul his father, and said to him, Don't let the king sin against his servant, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you:

⁴ And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good: ⁴ So Jonathan spoke well about David to his father Saul and said to him, "The king should not sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his service for you has been very good. ⁴ And Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, "Let not the king ^(b)sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have brought good to you.

⁴ When Jonathan talked to Saul his father, he said good things about David. Jonathan said, "The king should do no wrong to your servant David since he has done nothing wrong to you. What he has done has helped you greatly.

⁴ So Jonathan spoke on David's behalf to his father Saul. He said to him, "The king should not sin against his servant David, for he has not sinned against you. On the contrary, his actions have been very beneficial for you. ⁴ Then Jonathan ^(C1)spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, "^(C2)May the king not sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his deeds have been very beneficial to you.⁴ Then Jonathan ^(C1)spoke well of David to his father Saul and said to him, "^(C2)May the king not sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his deeds have been very ^(F1)beneficial to you.⁴ And Ionathan spake good of Dauid vnto Saul his father, & said vnto him, Let not the King sinne against his seruat, against Dauid: for he hath not sinned against thee, but his works haue bene to thee very good.⁴ Then Jonathan ^(C1)spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, "^(C2)Do not let the king sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his works have been very good for you.^4-5 The next morning, Jonathan reminded Saul about the many good things David had done for him. Then he said, "Why do you want to kill David? He hasn't done anything to you. He has served in your army and has always done what's best for you. He even risked his life to kill Goliath. The Lord helped Israel win a great victory that day, and it made you happy."

⁴ Y'honatan spoke well of David to Sha'ul his father and said to him, "The king shouldn't sin against his servant David, because he hasn't sinned against you. On the contrary, his work for you has been very good indeed.

⁴ And Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against thee; for also what he did was very advantageous to thee;

⁴ Jonathan talked to his father Saul. Jonathan said good things about David. He said, "You are the king. David is your servant. David hasn't done anything wrong to you, so don't do anything wrong to him. He has always been good to you.⁴ And Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, Let not the king sin against his servant David; for he has not sinned against you, and his works are sufficient proof of his loyalty to you;

⁴ Jonathan praised David to Saul and said, "Sir, don't do wrong to your servant David. He has never done you any wrong; on the contrary, everything he has done has been a great help to you. ⁴ And Jonathan spoke good of David to his father Saul, and said to him, Do not let the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you; also because his works for you are very good.⁴ And Ionathas reported ye best of Dauid vnto Saul his father, and sayde vnto him: Oh let not the kynge synne agaynst his seruaunt, for he hath not synned agaynst the, and his doynge is very necessary for the, ⁴ And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good: ⁴ And Jonathan gave his father Saul a good account of David, and said to him, Let not the king do wrong against his servant, against David; because he has done you no wrong, and all his acts have had a good outcome for you:⁴ And Ionathan spake good of Dauid vnto Saul his father, and sayde vnto him: Let not the king sinne against his seruaunt, against Dauid: for he hath not sinned against thee, and his workes haue ben to theewarde very good.⁴ And Jonathan spoke good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him: 'Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his work hath been very good towards thee;⁴ And Ionathan spake good of Dauid vnto Saul his father, and said vnto him, Let not the King sinne against his seruant, against Dauid: because hee hath not sinned against thee, and because his workes haue bene to thee ward very good. ⁴ And Jonathan spoke favorably concerning David to Saul his father, and said to him, Let not the king sin against thy servant David, for he has not sinned against thee, and his deeds are very good. ⁴ And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee–ward very good: ⁴ Then Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul and said to him, “The king should not sin against his servant David; he has not sinned against you. In fact, his actions have been highly beneficial to you.⁴ Therfor Jonathas spak good thingis of Dauid to Saul, his fadir, and seide to hym, Kyng, do thou not synne ayens thi seruaunt Dauid, for he `synnede not to thee, and hise werkis ben ful good to thee;<sup>4</sup> And Jonathan speaketh good of David unto Saul his father, and saith unto him, `Let not the king sin against his servant, against David, because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works for thee [are] very good;⁴ And Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, Don't let the king sin against his slave, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you:⁴ And Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works [have been] toward thee very good:⁴ Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, Don't let the king sin against his servant, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you: ⁴ Thus Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father, and said to him, "Let not the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you.

⁴ The next morning Jonathan spoke with his father about David, saying many good things about him. "The king must not sin against his servant David," Jonathan said. "He's never done anything to harm you. He has always helped you in any way he could. ⁴ Then Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father, saying, "Do not let the king sin against his servant David. He has not sinned against you. What he has done has been good for you. ⁴ Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul, saying to him, "The king should not sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have been of good service to you; ⁴ So then Jonathan spake of David things that were good, unto Saul his father, - and said unto him - May the king not sin against his servant - against David; for he hath not sinned against, thee, nay, indeed, his doings have been good to theeward exceedingly.⁴ And Jonathan spoke good things of David to Saul, his father: and said to him: Sin not, O king, against thy servant, David, because he hath not sinned against thee, and his works are very good towards thee.⁴ And Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father, and said to him, "Let not the king sin against his servant David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have been of good service to you;⁴ And Jonathan speaks good of David to his father Saul and says to him, "Do not let the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works [are] very good for you;^4-5 Jonathan brought up David with his father, speaking well of him. "Please," he said to his father, "don't attack David. He hasn't wronged you, has he? And just look at all the good he has done! He put his life on the line when he killed the Philistine. What a great victory God gave Israel that day! You were there. You saw it and were on your feet applauding with everyone else. So why would you even think of sinning against an innocent person, killing David for no reason whatever?"⁴ Then Jonathan ^(C1)spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, "^(C2)Do not let the king sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his deeds have been very ^(F1)beneficial to you.⁵ He took his life in his hands when he struck down the Philistine,^(C1) and the Lord brought about a great victory for all Israel.^(C2) You saw it and rejoiced, so why would you sin against innocent blood by killing David for no reason?” ^(C3)

⁵ For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the Lord wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause? ⁵ He put his life in his hand and attacked the Philistine, and Yahweh brought about a great victory for all of Israel, and you saw it and rejoiced! Now why should you sin against innocent blood by killing David without cause?" ⁵ For ^(c)he took his life in his hand ^(d)and he struck down the Philistine, ^(e)and the Lord worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against ^(f)innocent blood by killing David without cause?" ⁵ David risked his life when he killed Goliath the Philistine, and the Lord won a great victory for all Israel. You saw it and were happy. Why would you do wrong against David? He's innocent. There's no reason to kill him!" ⁵ He risked his life when he struck down the Philistine and the Lord gave all Israel a great victory. When you saw it, you were happy. You yourself saw it, and you were happy about it. So why do you want to sin against innocent blood by killing David without any reason?"

You were certainly happy about it then. Why should you murder an innocent man like David? There is no reason for it at all!" ⁵ He put his life in danger and killed the Philistine. And the Lord helped all Israel with His saving power. You saw it and were glad. Why then will you sin against him who has done no wrong, by killing David for no reason?" ⁵ for he took his life in his hand when he attacked the Philistine, and the Lord brought about a great victory for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced; why then will you sin against an innocent person by killing David without cause?" ⁵ And, when he put his life in his hand, and smote the Philistine, and Yahweh wrought a great victory for all Israel, thou sawest, and didst rejoice. Wherefore, then, shouldst thou sin against innocent blood by putting David to death, without cause?⁵ And he put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the Lord wrought great salvation for all Israel. Thou sawest it and didst rejoice. You saw it, and rejoiced; why then will you sin against innocent blood by killing David without cause?"⁵ indeed, he puts his life in his hand, and strikes the Philistine, and YHWH works a great salvation for all Israel; you have seen, and rejoice, and why do you sin against innocent blood, to put David to death for nothing?"⁵ "For ^(C1)he took his life in his hand and struck the Philistine, and ^(C2)the LORD brought about a great deliverance for all Israel; you saw it and rejoiced. ^(C3)Why then will you sin against innocent blood by putting David to death without a cause?"

⁶ Saul listened to Jonathan’s advice and swore an oath: “As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be killed.” ⁶ Sha'ul listened to the voice of Yonatan: and Sha'ul swore, As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death.

⁶ And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the Lord liveth, he shall not be slain. ⁶ And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan and swore, "As Yahweh lives,^[d] he will not be put to death!" ⁶ And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore, ^(g)"As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death."

⁶ Saul listened to Jonathan and then made this promise: "As surely as the Lord lives, David won't be put to death."

⁶ Saul accepted Jonathan's advice and took an oath, "As surely as the Lord lives, he will not be put to death." ⁶ Saul listened to Jonathan and swore an oath, "As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death."⁶ Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul vowed, "As the LORD lives, David shall not be put to death."⁶ Then Saul hearkened vnto the voyce of Ionathan, and Saul sware, As the Lorde liueth, he shall not dye.⁶ And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swore, "As Yahweh lives, he shall not be put to death."

⁶ Saul agreed and promised, "I swear by the living Lord that I won't have David killed!" ⁶ Sha'ul heeded Y'honatan's advice and swore, "As Adonai lives, he will not be put to death."

⁶ And Saul hearkened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swore, [As] Jehovah liveth, he shall not be put to death!

⁶ Saul listened to Jonathan and made a promise. He said, "As surely as the Lord lives, David won't be put to death."⁶ And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan his son; and Saul swore, saying, As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death.

⁶ So Saul listened to Jonathan and vowed, "As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be killed." ⁶ Saul listened to Jonathan, and promised, "As the Lord lives, David will not be killed." ⁶ Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan; Saul swore, "As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death." ⁶ And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan, - and Saul sware, By the life of Yahweh, he shall not be put to death!⁶ And when Saul heard this, he was appeased with the words of Jonathan, and swore: As the Lord liveth, he shall not be slain.⁶ And Saul hearkened to the voice of Jonathan; Saul swore, "As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death."⁶ And Saul listens to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swears, "YHWH lives—he does not die."

⁶ Saul listened to Jonathan and said, "You're right. As God lives, David lives. He will not be killed."⁶ Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul vowed, "As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death."⁷ So Jonathan summoned David and told him all these words. Then Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he served him as he did before.^(C1)
