Deliverance at Keilah

1 It was reported to David: “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah(C1) and raiding the threshing floors.”

1 They told David, saying, Behold, the Pelishtim are fighting against Ke`ilah, and are robbing the threshing floors.

1 Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshingfloors.

David Defeats the Philistines at Keilah

1 Now they told David, "Look, the Philistines are fighting in Keilah and they are raiding the threshing floors."

David Saves the City of Keilah

1 Now they told David, "Behold, the Philistines are fighting against (a)Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors."

David Saves the People of Keilah

1 Someone told David, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and stealing grain from the threshing floors."

David Delivers the City of Keilah

1 They told David, "The Philistines are fighting in Keilah and are looting the threshing floors."

David Rescues Keilah

1 Then they told David, saying, "Behold, the Philistines are fighting against (C1)Keilah and are plundering (robbing) the threshing floors of the grain."

David Saves Keilah

1 Then they informed David, saying, "Behold, the Philistines are fighting against (C1)Keilah and are plundering the threshing floors."

1 Then they tolde Dauid, saying, Beholde, the Philistims fight against Keilah, and spoyle the barnes.

1 Then they told David, saying, "Behold, the Philistines are fighting against (C1)Keilah and are pillaging the threshing floors."

David Rescues the Town of Keilah

1 One day some people told David, "The Philistines keep attacking the town of Keilah and stealing grain from the threshing place."

1 David was told, "The P'lishtim are fighting Ke‘ilah and plundering the threshing-floors."

1 And they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshing-floors.

David at Keilah

1 People told David, "Look, the Philistines are fighting against the city of Keilah. They are robbing grain from the threshing floors."

1 THEN they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors.

David Saves the Town of Keilah

1 David heard that the Philistines were attacking the town of Keilah and were stealing the newly harvested grain.

1 And they spoke to David, saying, Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are plundering the threshing floors.

1 And it was tolde Dauid: Beholde, the Philistynes fight against Cegila, and spoyle the barnes.

1 And they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing-floors.

1 And they sent word to David, saying, The Philistines are fighting against Keilah and taking the grain from the grain-floors.

1 Then they tolde Dauid, saying: Beholde, the Philistines fight against Keila, and spoyle the barnes.

1 And they told David, saying: 'Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they rob the threshing-floors.'

1 Then they told Dauid, saying, Beholde, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshing floores.

1 And it was told David, saying, behold, the Philistines war in Keila, and they rob, they trample on the threshing-floors.

David Delivers Keilah

(Psalm 54:1-7)

1 Now it was reported to David, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and looting the threshing floors.”

1 And thei telden to Dauid, and seiden, Lo! Filisteis fiyten ayens Seila, and rauyschen the corn floris.

1 And they declare to David, saying, `Lo, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are spoiling the threshing-floors.'

1 And they told David, saying, Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing-floors.

1 Then they told David, saying, Behold, the Philistines fight against Keilah, and they rob the threshing-floors.

David Protects the Town of Keilah

1 One day news came to David that the Philistines were at Keilah stealing grain from the threshing floors.

David Saves Keilah

1 Then they told David, "See, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah. They are taking the grain from the grain-floors."

David Saves the City of Keilah

1 Now they told David, "The Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and are robbing the threshing floors."

1 Then told they David, saying, - Lo! the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are plundering the threshing-floors.

1 And they told David, saying: Behold the Philistines fight against Ceila, and they rob the barns.

1 Now they told David, "Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Kei'lah, and are robbing the threshing floors."

1 And they declare to David, saying, "Behold, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are spoiling the threshing-floors."1-2 It was reported to David that the Philistines were raiding Keilah and looting the grain. David went in prayer to God: "Should I go after these Philistines and teach them a lesson?"

God said, "Go. Attack the Philistines and save Keilah."

David Delivers Keilah

1 Then they told David, saying, "Behold, the Philistines are fighting against (C1)Keilah and are plundering the threshing floors."

2 So David inquired of the Lord:(C1) “Should I launch an attack against these Philistines?”

2 Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and strike these Pelishtim? the LORD said to David, Go, and strike the Pelishtim, and save Ke`ilah.

2 Therefore David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. 2 So David inquired of Yahweh, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And Yahweh said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines and save[a] Keilah." 2 Therefore David (b)inquired of the Lord, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And the Lord said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah."

2 David asked the Lord, "Should I go and fight these Philistines?"

The Lord answered him, "Go. Attack them, and save Keilah." 2 So David asked the Lord, "Should I go and strike down these Philistines?" The Lord said to David, "Go, strike down the Philistines and deliver Keilah."2 So David (C1)inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And the Lord said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah."2 So David (C1)inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and (F1)attack these Philistines?" And the LORD said to David, "Go and (F1)attack the Philistines and save Keilah."2 Therfore Dauid asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shal I goe and smite these Philistims? And the Lord answered Dauid, Go and smite the Philistims, and saue Keilah.2 So David (C1)asked of Yahweh, saying, "Shall I go and strike these Philistines?" And Yahweh said to David, "Go and strike the Philistines and save Keilah."

2 David asked the Lord, "Should I attack these Philistines?"

"Yes," the Lord answered. "Attack them and rescue Keilah." 2 David consulted Adonai, asking, "Should I go and attack these P'lishtim?" Adonai answered David, "Go, and attack the P'lishtim, and save Ke‘ilah."

2 And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And Jehovah said to David, Go and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.

2 David asked the Lord, "Should I go and fight these Philistines?"

The Lord answered David, "Yes, go attack the Philistines. Save Keilah."2 And David inquired of the LORD, saying. Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said to him, Go and smite the Philistines and save Keilah. 2 So he asked the Lord, "Shall I go and attack the Philistines?"

"Yes," the Lord answered. "Attack them and save Keilah."2 And David asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go? And shall I strike against these Philistines? And Jehovah said to David, Go, and you shall strike the Philistines and save Keilah.2 Then Dauid axed at the LORDE, and sayde: Shal I go, & smyte these Philistynes? And the LORDE sayde vnto Dauid: Go thy waye, thou shalt smyte the Philistynes, and delyuer Cegila. 2 Therefore David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And Jehovah said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. 2 So David, questioning the Lord, said, Am I to go and make an attack on these Philistines? And the Lord said to David, Go and make an attack on the Philistines so that Keilah may be kept from falling into their hands.2 Therfore Dauid asked counsell of the lord, saying: Shal I go and smyte these Philistines? And the Lord aunswered vnto Dauid: Go, and smite the Philistines, and saue Keila.2 Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying: 'Shall I go and smite these Philistines?' And the LORD said unto David: 'Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.'2 Therefore Dauid enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said vnto Dauid, Goe, and smite the Philistines, and saue Keilah. 2 And David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said, Go, and thou shalt smite these Philistines, and shalt save Keila. 2 Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. 2 So David inquired of the LORD, “Should I go and attack these Philistines?” And the LORD said to David, “Go and attack the Philistines and deliver Keilah.”2 Therfor Dauid councelide the Lord, and seide, Whether Y schal go, and smyte Filisteis? And the Lord seide to Dauid, Go thou, and thou schalt smyte Filisteis, and thou schalt saue Seila.2 And David asketh at Jehovah, saying, `Do I go? -- and have I smitten among these Philistines?' And Jehovah saith unto David, `Go, and thou hast smitten among the Philistines, and saved Keilah.'2 Therefore David inquired of Yahweh, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And Yahweh said to David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.2 Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said to David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.2 Therefore David inquired of Yahweh, saying, Shall I go and strike these Philistines? Yahweh said to David, Go, and strike the Philistines, and save Keilah. 2 Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And the LORD said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah." 2 David asked the Lord, "Should I go and attack them?"

"Yes, go and save Keilah," the Lord told him. 2 So David asked the Lord, "Should I go and fight these Philistines?" And the Lord said to David, "Go, fight the Philistines, and save Keilah." 2 David inquired of the Lord, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" The Lord said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah." 2 So David enquired of Yahweh, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And Yahweh said unto David - Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.2 Therefore David consulted the Lord, saying: Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the Lord said to David: Go, and thou shalt smite the Philistines, and shalt save Ceila.2 Therefore David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I go and attack these Philistines?" And the LORD said to David, "Go and attack the Philistines and save Kei'lah."2 And David inquires of YHWH, saying, "Do I go? And have I struck among these Philistines?" And YHWH says to David, "Go, and you have struck among the Philistines, and saved Keilah."2 So David (C1)inquired of the LORD, saying, "Shall I go and (F1)attack these Philistines?" And the LORD said to David, "Go and (F1)attack the Philistines and deliver Keilah."

The Lord answered David, “Launch an attack against the Philistines and rescue Keilah.”

3 But David’s men said to him, “Look, we’re afraid here in Judah; how much more if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!”

3 David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Yehudah: how much more then if we go to Ke`ilah against the armies of the Pelishtim?

3 And David's men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? 3 But David's men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more[b] if we go to Keilah to the battle lines of the Philistines?" 3 But David's men said to him, "Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?"

3 But David's men said to him, "We're afraid here in Judah. We will be more afraid if we go to Keilah where the Philistine army is."

3 But David's men said to him, "We are afraid while we are still here in Judah! What will it be like if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?" 3 But David's men said to him, "Listen, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the battle lines of the Philistines?"3 But David's men said to him, "Behold, we are fearful here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the ranks of the Philistines?"3 And Dauids men said vnto him, See, we be afrayde here in Iudah, howe much more if we come to Keilah against the hoste of ye Philistims?3 But David's men said to him, "Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the battle lines of the Philistines?"

3 But David's men said, "Look, even here in Judah we're afraid of the Philistines. We will be terrified if we try to fight them at Keilah!"[a] 3 David's men said to him, "Look, we're already afraid here in Y'hudah. How much more, then, if we go to Ke‘ilah to fight the armies of the P'lishtim!"

3 But David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

3 But David's men said to him, "Look, our men are afraid here in Judah. Just think how afraid we will be if we go to Keilah, where the Philistine army is lined up and ready for battle."3 And Davids men said to him, We are afraid here in Judea, how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?

3 But David's men said to him, "We have enough to be afraid of here in Judah; it will be much worse if we go to Keilah and attack the Philistine forces!" 3 And David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; and how shall we go to Keilah to the armies of the Philistines?3 But ye men that were with Dauid, sayde vnto him: Beholde, we are here in feare in Iewry, and shall we go to Cegila vnto the hoost of the Philistynes? 3 And David's men said unto him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? 3 And David's men said to him, Even here in Judah we are full of fear: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?3 And Dauids men said vnto him, See, we be afrayde here in Iuda: howe much more then if we come to Keila against the hoast of the Philistines?3 And David's men said unto him: 'Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?' 3 And Dauids men said vnto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Iudah: how much more then if wee come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? 3 And the men of David said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judea; and how shall it be if we go to Keila? Shall we go after the spoils of the Philistines? 3 And David’s men said unto him, Behold, we be afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? 3 But David’s men said to him, “Look, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?”3 And men, that weren with Dauid, seiden to him, Lo! we ben heere in Judee, and dredden; hou myche more, if we schulen go in to Seila ayens the cumpanyes of Filisteis.3 And David's men say unto him, `Lo, we here in Judah are afraid; and how much more when we go to Keilah, unto the ranks of the Philistines?'3 And David's men said to him, Look, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?3 And David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we come to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?3 David's men said to him, Behold, we are afraid here in Judah: how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines? 3 But David's men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?"

3 But David's men said, "We're afraid even here in Judah. We certainly don't want to go to Keilah to fight the whole Philistine army!" 3 But David's men said to him, "See, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?" 3 But David's men said to him, "Look, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Keilah against the armies of the Philistines?" 3 But the men of David said unto him, Lo! we, here, in Judah, are afraid, - how much more, then, if we go to Keilah, against the ranks of the Philistines?3 And the men that were with David, said to him: Behold we are in fear here in Judea, how much more if we go to Ceila against the bands of the Philistines?3 But David's men said to him, "Behold, we are afraid here in Judah; how much more then if we go to Kei'lah against the armies of the Philistines?"3 And David's men say to him, "Behold, we here in Judah are afraid; and how much more when we go to Keilah, to the ranks of the Philistines?"

3 But David's men said, "We live in fear of our lives right here in Judah. How can you think of going to Keilah in the thick of the Philistines?"3 But David's men said to him, "Behold, we are afraid here in Judah. How much more then if we go to Keilah against the ranks of the Philistines?"

4 Once again, David inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him: “Go at once to Keilah, for I will hand the Philistines over to you.”(C1) 4 Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. The LORD answered him, and said, Arise, go down to Ke`ilah; for I will deliver the Pelishtim into your hand.

4 Then David enquired of the Lord yet again. And the Lord answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand. 4 So David again inquired of Yahweh, and Yahweh answered him and said, "Get up, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into your hand." 4 Then David (c)inquired of the Lord again. And the Lord answered him, "Arise, go down to Keilah, (d)for I will give the Philistines into your hand."

4 David again asked the Lord, and the Lord answered, "Go down to Keilah. I will help you defeat the Philistines." 4 So David asked the Lord once again. But again the Lord replied, "Arise, go down to Keilah, for I will give the Philistines into your hand."4 Then David inquired of the LORD again. And the LORD answered him, "Arise, go down to Keilah, for (C1)I will hand over the Philistines to you."4 So David inquired of the LORD once more. And the LORD answered him and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah, for (C1)I am going to hand the Philistines over to you."4 Then Dauid asked counsell of the Lord againe. And the Lord answered him, & sayd, Arise, go downe to Keilah: for I wil deliuer the Philistims into thine hand.4 Then David asked of Yahweh once more. And Yahweh answered him and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah, for (C1)I will give the Philistines into your hand."

4 David asked the Lord about it again. "Leave right now," the Lord answered. "I will give you victory over the Philistines at Keilah." 4 David consulted Adonai again; and Adonai answered him, "Set out, and go down to Ke‘ilah, because I will hand the P'lishtim over to you."

4 And David inquired of Jehovah yet again. And Jehovah answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will give the Philistines into thy hand.

4 David again asked the Lord. And the Lord answered David, "Go down to Keilah. I will help you defeat the Philistines."4 Then David inquired of the LORD again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand. 4 So David consulted the Lord again, and the Lord said to him, "Go and attack Keilah, because I will give you victory over the Philistines." 4 And David once again inquired of Jehovah. And Jehovah answered him and said, Rise up, go down to Keilah, for I have given the Philistines into your hand.4 The Dauid axed at the LORDE agayne. And the LORDE answered him, and sayde: Vp, get the downe to Cegila, for I wil delyuer the Philistynes in to thy hande. 4 Then David inquired of Jehovah yet again. And Jehovah answered him, and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hand. 4 Then David put the question to the Lord again, and the Lord answering said, Up! go down to Keilah; for I will give the Philistines into your hands.4 Then Dauid asked counsell of the Lorde agayne. And the Lorde aunswered him, and sayd: Aryse, and go downe to Keila, for I will deliuer the Philistines into thyne hande.4 Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said: 'Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hand.'4 Then Dauid enquired of the Lord yet againe: And the Lord answered him, and said, Arise, go down to Keilah: for I will deliuer the Philistines into thine hand. 4 And David enquired yet again of the Lord; and the Lord answered him, and said to him, Arise and go down to Keila, for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hands. 4 Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand. 4 Once again, David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him: “Go at once to Keilah, for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.”4 Therfor eft Dauid councelide the Lord; which answeride, and seide to Dauid, Rise thou, and go `in to Seila; for Y schal bitake Filisteis in thin hond.4 And David addeth again to ask at Jehovah, and Jehovah answereth him, and saith, `Rise, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into thy hand.'4 Then David inquired of Yahweh yet again. And Yahweh answered him, and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand.4 Then David inquired of the LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hand.4 Then David inquired of Yahweh yet again. Yahweh answered him, and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into your hand. 4 Then David inquired of the LORD once again. And the LORD answered him and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah. For I will deliver the Philistines into your hand."

4 So David asked the Lord again, and again the Lord replied, "Go down to Keilah, for I will help you conquer the Philistines." 4 Then David asked the Lord again. The Lord answered him, "Get ready and go down to Keilah. For I will give the Philistines into your hand." 4 Then David inquired of the Lord again. The Lord answered him, "Yes, go down to Keilah; for I will give the Philistines into your hand." 4 So David yet again enquired if Yahweh, and Yahweh answered him, - and said - Arise, go down to Keilah, for I am about to deliver the Philistines into thy hand.4 Therefore David consulted the Lord again. And he answered and said to him: Arise, and go to Ceila: for I will deliver the Philistines into thy hand.4 Then David inquired of the LORD again. And the LORD answered him, "Arise, go down to Kei'lah; for I will give the Philistines into your hand."4 And David adds again to inquire of YHWH, and YHWH answers him and says, "Rise, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into your hand."

4 So David went back to God in prayer. God said, "Get going. Head for Keilah. I'm placing the Philistines in your hands."4 Then David inquired of the LORD once more. And the LORD answered him and said, "Arise, go down to Keilah, for (C1)I will give the Philistines into your hand."5 Then David and his men went to Keilah, fought against the Philistines, drove their livestock away, and inflicted heavy losses on them. So David rescued the inhabitants of Keilah. 5 David and his men went to Ke`ilah, and fought with the Pelishtim, and brought away their cattle, and killed them with a great slaughter. So David save the inhabitants of Ke`ilah.

5 So David and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah. 5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines. They drove off their livestock and dealt them a heavy blow.[c] So David saved[d] the inhabitants of Keilah. 5 And David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines and brought away their livestock and struck them with a great blow. So David saved the inhabitants of Keilah. 5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought the Philistines and took their cattle. David killed many Philistines and saved the people of Keilah.

5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought the Philistines. He took away their cattle and thoroughly defeated them. David delivered the inhabitants of Keilah.5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought the Philistines; he drove away their cattle and struck them with a great slaughter. So David rescued the inhabitants of Keilah.

5 So Dauid and his men went to Keilah, and fought with the Philistims, & brought away their cattel, & smote them with a great slaughter: thus Dauid saued the inhabitants of Keilah.5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines; and he led away their livestock and struck them with a great slaughter. Thus David saved the inhabitants of Keilah.

5 David and his men went there and fiercely attacked the Philistines. They killed many of them, then led away their cattle, and rescued the people of Keilah. 5 David and his men went to Ke‘ilah and fought the P'lishtim. They defeated them in a great slaughter and led away their livestock. Thus David saved the inhabitants of Ke‘ilah.

5 And David and his men went to Keilah, and fought against the Philistines, and brought away their cattle, and smote them with a great slaughter. After Abiathar took refuge with David, he joined David in the raid on Keilah, bringing the Ephod with him.5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought with the Philistines; and he led away their livestock and struck them with a great slaughter. Thus David delivered the inhabitants of Keilah.

6 Abiathar son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, and he brought an ephod with him.

6 It happened, when Avyatar the son of Achimelekh fled to David to Ke`ilah, that he came down with an efod in his hand.

David Flees from Saul at Keilah

6 Now when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled[e] to David at Keilah, he went down with an ephod in his hand.

David Eludes Saul Again

6 Now when Abiathar son of Ahimelech had fled to David at Keilah, he had brought with him an ephod.

6 Now it happened when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech (C1)fled to David at Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.6-8 Meanwhile, Saul heard that David was in Keilah. "God has let me catch David," Saul said. "David is trapped inside a walled town where the gates can be locked." Saul decided to go there and surround the town, in order to trap David and his men. He sent messengers who told the towns and villages, "Send men to serve in Saul's army!"

By this time, Abiathar had joined David in Keilah and had brought along everything he needed to get answers from God.

6 When Avyatar the son of Achimelekh fled to David in Ke‘ilah, he had brought a ritual vest with him.
