yaitu dalam segala acara yang sampai kepadamu dari pada segala saudara kamu, yang duduk di dalam negeri-negerinya, dari hal darah dengan darah atau dari hal hukum dan undang-undang, dari hal syariat dan syarat, hendaklah kamu menasihatkan mereka itu, supaya jangan mereka itu bersalah kepada Tuhan, sehingga murka besar datang atas kamu dan atas segala saudaramu; hendaklah kamu berbuat demikian, supaya jangan kamu sendiripun bersalah!

⁵ And he set iudges in the lande throughout all the strong cities of Iuda, citie by citie: ⁶ And sayde to the iudges, Take heede what ye do: for ye execute not the iudgementes of man, but of God, whiche is with you in the iudgement. ⁷ Wherfore now let the feare of the Lord be vpon you, and take heede, & be doyng [the thing that pleaseth hym] for there is no vnrighteousnes with the Lorde our God, that he shoulde haue any respect of persons, or take rewardes. ⁸ Moreouer, in Hierusalem did Iehosaphat set of the Leuites, & of the priestes, and of the auncient fathers, ouer Israel in the iudgement and cause of the Lord: And they returned againe to Hierusale. ⁹ And he charged them, saying, Thus shal ye do in the feare of the Lord faythfully, and with a pure heart: ¹⁰ What cause soeuer come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, betweene blood and blood, betweene lawe and commaundemet, betweene statutes and ordinaunces: ye shall warne them that they trespasse not against ye Lorde, and so wrath come vpon you and your brethren: Thus do, & ye shal not offende. ¹¹ And beholde, Amaria the hie priest is among you in all matters of the Lorde, and Zebadia the sonne of Ismael, a ruler of the house of Iuda for all the kinges matters: There be officers of the Leuites also before you, Take courage to you therfore, and be doyng [manfully] and the Lorde shalbe with such as be good.

And what cause soever shall come unto you of your brethren that dwell in their cities,.... Whether sacred or civil, that should come before them by way of appeal from, inferior courts in the country, where they could not be determined:

between blood and blood; one relation and another, or with respect to shedding of blood, whether ignorantly or purposely:

between law and commandment, statutes and judgments; not rightly understood, and so pleaded on both sides:

ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the Lord; the persons engaged in controversy, that they take no false oath, nor bear false testimony, and act not stubbornly against any of the laws, when explained in court unto them:

and so wrath come upon you and your children; upon judges for the neglect of their duty in giving due warning, and upon the people for not taking it when given:

this do, and ye shall not trespass; if the above charge in all its parts is strictly attended to.

The Jews who “dwelt in the cities,” if dissatisfied with the decision given by the provincial judges, might therefore remove the cause to Jerusalem, as to a court of appeal.

Verse 2 Chronicles 19:10. Between blood and blood — Cases of man-slaughter or accidental murder, or cases of consanguinity, the settlement of inheritance, family claims, &c.

Between law and commandment — Whatsoever concerns the moral precepts, rites, and ceremonies, of the law, or whatsoever belongs to civil affairs.
