Lalu penduduk Yerusalem mengangkat Ahazia, anaknya yang bungsu, menjadi raja menggantikan dia, karena semua anaknya yang lebih tua umurnya telah dibunuh oleh gerombolan yang datang ke tempat perkemahan bersama-sama orang-orang Arab. Dengan demikian Ahazia, anak Yoram raja Yehuda, menjadi raja.
Arakian, maka orang isi Yeruzalem merajakanlah Ahazia, puteranya yang bungsu, akan gantinya, karena segala puteranya yang besar itu sudah dibunuh oleh suatu pasukan yang telah datang serta dengan orang Arab sampai ke dalam tempat tentara, maka sebab itu naiklah Ahazia bin Yoram itu raja atas orang Yehuda.

And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lorde thy God led thee this fourtie yeres in the wildernesse, for to humble thee, & to proue thee, and to knowe what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest kepe his comaundementes, or no.
He fed thee in the wyldernesse with Manna, which thy fathers knewe not, euen for to humble thee, and to proue thee, and that he might so do thee good at thy latter ende,
Hearken not thou vnto the wordes of that prophete or dreamer of dreames: For the Lorde thy God proueth you, to knowe whether ye loue the Lorde your God with all your heart and with all your soule.
That through them I may proue Israel, whether they wil kepe the way of the Lorde, and walke therin as their fathers dyd, or not.

And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead,.... He being the only surviving one of the sons of Jehoram, the same with Jehoahaz, 2 Chronicles 21:17 who was saved when the rest were taken captive and slain, by his mother Athaliah, and he made his escape, and that she also escaped is clear from
2 Chronicles 22:10
for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp; that is, of the Philistines, 2 Chronicles 21:16, which band seems to be a band or company of thieves and robbers, as the Septuagint, cruel and barbarous, as the action ascribed to them shows:
[for they] had slain all the eldest; sons of Jehoram; the Philistines and Arabians only carried them away captives, but those slew them in cold blood:
so Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned; being declared his successor by the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
