Ojal fuesen ordenados mis caminos A observar tus estatutos! Entonces no sera yo avergonzado, Cuando atendiese todos tus mandamientos. Te alabar con rectitud de corazn, Cuando aprendiere los juicios de tu justicia. Tus estatutos guardar: No me dejes enteramente. BETH. Con qu limpiar el joven su camino? Con guardar tu palabra. Apresurme, y no me retard En guardar tus mandamientos. Compaa de impos me han robado: Mas no me he olvidado de tu ley. A media noche me levantaba alabarte Sobre los juicios de tu justicia. Contra m forjaron mentira los soberbios: Mas yo guardar de todo corazn tus mandamientos. Engrasse el corazn de ellos como sebo; Mas yo en tu ley me he deleitado. Bueno me es haber sido humillado, Para que aprenda tus estatutos. Mejor me es la ley de tu boca, Que millares de oro y plata. YOD. Tus manos me hicieron y me formaron: Hazme entender, y aprender tus mandamientos. Los que te temen, me vern, y se alegrarn; Porque en tu palabra he esperado. Conozco, oh Jehov, que tus juicios son justicia, Y que conforme tu fidelidad me afligiste. Sea ahora tu misericordia para consolarme, Conforme lo que has dicho tu siervo. Vengan m tus misericordias, y viva; Porque tu ley es mi deleite. Sean avergonzados los soberbios, porque sin causa me han calumniado: Yo empero, meditar en tus mandamientos. Trnense m los que te temen Y conocen tus testimonios. Sea mi corazn ntegro en tus estatutos; Porque no sea yo avergonzado. KAF. Desfallece mi alma por tu salud, Esperando en tu palabra. Desfallecieron mis ojos por tu palabra, Diciendo: Cundo me consolars? Porque estoy como el odre al humo; Mas no he olvidado tus estatutos. Cuntos son los das de tu siervo? Cundo hars juicio contra los que me persiguen? Los soberbios me han cavado hoyos; Mas no obran segn tu ley. Todos tus mandamientos son verdad: Sin causa me persiguen; aydame. Casi me han echado por tierra: Mas yo no he dejado tus mandamientos. Vivifcame conforme tu misericordia; Y guardar los testimonios de tu boca. LAMED. Para siempre, oh Jehov, Permenece tu palabra en los cielos. Por generacin y generacin es tu verdad: T afirmaste la tierra, y persevera. Por tu ordenacin perseveran hasta hoy las cosas criadas; Porque todas ellas te sirven. Si tu ley no hubiese sido mis delicias, Ya en mi afliccin hubiera perecido. Nunca jams me olvidar de tus mandamientos; Porque con ellos me has vivificado. Tuyo soy yo, gurdame; Porque he buscado tus mandamientos. Los impos me han aguardado para destruirme: Mas yo entender en tus testimonios. A toda perfeccin he visto fin: Ancho sobremanera es tu mandamiento. MEM. Cunto amo yo tu ley! Todo el da es ella mi meditacin. Me has hecho ms sabio que mis enemigos con tus mandamientos; Porque me son eternos. Ms que todos mis enseadores he entendido: Porque tus testimonios son mi meditacin. Ms que los viejos he entendido, Porque he guardado tus mandamientos. De todo mal camino contuve mis pies, Para guardar tu palabra. No me apart de tus juicios; Porque t me enseaste. Cun dulces son mi paladar tus palabras! Ms que la miel mi boca. De tus mandamientos he adquirido inteligencia: Por tanto he aborrecido todo camino de mentira. NUN. Lmpara es mis pies tu palabra, Y lumbrera mi camino. Jur y ratifiqu El guardar los juicios de tu justicia. Afligido estoy en gran manera: oh Jehov, Vivifcame conforme tu palabra. Rugote, oh Jehov, te sean agradables los sacrificios voluntarios de mi boca; Y ensame tus juicios. De continuo est mi alma en mi mano: Mas no me he olvidado de tu ley. Pusironme lazo los impos: Empero yo no me desvi de tus mandamientos. Por heredad he tomado tus testimonios para siempre; Porque son el gozo de mi corazn. Mi corazn inclin poner por obra tus estatutos De continuo, hasta el fin. SAMECH. Los pensamientos vanos aborrezco; Mas amo tu ley. Mi escondedero y mi escudo eres t: En tu palabra he esperado. Apartaos de m, malignos; Pues yo guardar los mandamientos de mi Dios. Sustntame conforme tu palabra, y vivir: Y no me avergences de mi esperanza. Sostnme, y ser salvo; Y deleitarme siempre en tus estatutos. Hollaste todos los que se desvan de tus estatutos: Porque mentira es su engao. Como escorias hiciste consumir todos los impos de la tierra: Por tanto yo he amado tus testimonios. Mi carne se ha extremecido por temor de ti; Y de tus juicios tengo miedo. AIN. Juicio y justicia he hecho; No me dejes mis opresores. Responde por tu siervo para bien: No me hagan violencia los soberbios. Mis ojos desfallecieron por tu salud, Y por el dicho de tu justicia. Haz con tu siervo segn tu misericordia, Y ensame tus estatutos. Tu siervo soy yo, dame entendimiento; Para que sepa tus testimonios. Tiempo es de hacer, oh Jehov; Disipado han tu ley. Por eso he amado tus mandamientos Ms que el oro, y ms que oro muy puro.

The entrance of thy words giveth light,.... The beginning of them; the first three chapters in Genesis, what light do they give into the origin of all things; the creation of man, his state of innocence; his fall through the temptations of Satan, and his recovery and salvation by Christ, the seed of the woman, the first principles of the oracles of God, the rudiments of religion, the elements of the world, the rites of the ceremonial law, gave great light into Gospel mysteries. As soon as a man enters upon reading the Scriptures, if he has any degree of understanding of the things in them, they immediately throw light into his mind; or, however, as soon as ever the word has an entrance into the heart, and through the Spirit, power, and grace of God, makes its way and has a place there, that being opened by the Lord for that purpose, light arises in darkness. It maybe rendered, "the opening of thy words giveth light" p; and may signify either the interpretation and explanation of the word of God by the ministers of it, which is often of singular use for enlightening and warming the hearts of men, Luke 24:32; and to this sense are the Vulgate Latin and Septuagint versions; the one rendering it "the declaration of thy words", the other, "the manifestation" of them; and so the Ethiopic and Arabic versions; and to this sense is the Targum;
"the impression of thy words will enlighten those that are dark.''
Or it may intend the word that opens, as well as is opened, since it is the means of opening blind eyes; and so giving light to men to see their lost state by nature, and the suitableness of Christ as a Saviour, his fulness and grace, ability and willingness; to behold the wondrous things of the Gospel, the way they should walk in, and the duties of religion they should perform;
it giveth understanding unto the simple: who want understanding in the knowledge of divine and spiritual things, as all men do; and who are sensible of their want of it, ingenuously confess it, and are meek and humble; and so not above instruction, as proud and conceited persons are. Some render it "babes" q; and it may design such who are but of weak parts, in comparison of others, to whom the things of the Gospel are revealed, when they are hid from the wise and prudent: Christ by his Spirit opens their understandings, that they may understand the Scriptures; and by means of them gives them an understanding of himself, and of those things which make them wise unto salvation, and make for their spiritual peace and comfort, and their eternal welfare; see Psalms 19:7.

The entrance of thy words giveth light - The Septuagint translates this, “the manifestation (or declaration) - ἡ δήλωσις hē dēlōsis - of thy words enlightens.” So the Vulgate. Luther renders it, “When thy word is revealed, so it delivers us, and makes the simple wise.” DeWette, “The opening (revelation) of thy word,” etc. The Hebrew word - פתח pethach - means an “opening” or “entrance” - as of a gate, Joshua 20:4; Judges 9:35; and then “a door,” as of a tent or the temple, Gen 18:1; 1 Kings 6:8; or the gate of a city, Isaiah 3:26; and then it means opening, insight, instruction. The word as used here seems to denote the opening or unfolding of the word of God; the revelation of that word to the mind. A door is open so that we enter into a house; a gate, so that we enter into a city; and thus the meaning of the word of God is “opened” to us, so that we may, as it were, enter in and see its beauty. The language does not, therefore, denote the entrance of that word into the mind, but, its being made open to us so that we may perceive its beauty, or may ourselves “enter” into its meaning, its mysteries, and its beauties.
It giveth understanding unto the simple - The word rendered “simple” literally means “those who are open to persuasion,” or who are easily enticed or seduced. Then it refers to the credulous, Proverbs 14:15, and then to the “inexperienced.” See Psalms 19:7, note; Psalms 116:6, note.

Verse Psalms 119:130. The entrance of thy words giveth light — פתח pethach, the opening of it: when I open my Bible to read, light springs up in my mind. Every sermon, every prayer, every act of faith, is an opening by which light is let into the seeking soul.
