Introduction

  1. Introduction
READ: Jer 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
    1. Last week: Last week we looked at the crucifiction with regards to the last 7 recorded phrases Jesus said on this earth as He hung on the cross…1Pe 2:24a Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree,
    2. Rom 4:25 (Jesus) Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
    3. Today, we’ll talk about the resurrection…our justification and what Jesus calls us to do!

Verses 1-6

  1. The Resurrection
Mark 16:1-6 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. 3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? 4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. 5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
    1. Paid in Full
      1. In looking at the Resurrection: we must first remind ourselves of the propitiation…the payment in full for our sins:
      2. This work of Jesus: His death and resurrection was prophesied by Daniel - Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
      3. Paul wrote in 1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
      4. We are reminded in Romans 3:23-26 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
      5. (and to the church in Ephesis we read of Christ) Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
      6. Heb 9:11-12 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
    2. No Sin on My Account
      1. Understanding that we are guilty…we are sinners…and we have NO ability AT ALL in ourselves to claim any righteousness…we must not think that Justification is forgiveness.
      2. Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
      3. Forgiveness came on the cross. But – we are still guilty of our sins…we are just forgiven. That doesn’t provide any righteousness at all! If I punch you in the nose and you forgive me…I’m still guilty of punching you in the nose!
      4. That’s where justification comes in: We can playfully say to be justified is “just as if I” had never sinned.
      5. Judicially, that is exactly what happens…Christ imparts His righteousness to us when we place our faith, trust and hope in the atoning work that He performed on the cross.
      6. Consequently, because that impartation removes all of our sin – not just our guilt and it’s not just our fogiveness (which we also receive through faith in the sovereign work of Christ on the Cross), but our sin is actually removed! ...and it is now as if I had never punched you in the nose!
      7. This is not saying our sin nature is removed nor is it saying our sanctification is complete…rather judicially, Christ paid the penalty for our sin and in the resurrection the Lord says, “Paid in full!” You have been pardoned…your guiltiness before the court has been removed.
      8. We have been made clean!
      9. Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
      10. Act 13:39 And by him (Christ) all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
      11. Rom 4:5, 25 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
      12. 2Co 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
      13. Rom 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
      14. Tit 3:7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Verses 7-14

  1. Do You Believe?
Mark 16:7-14 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you. 8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid. 9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. 10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. 11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. 12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. 13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them. 14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
    1. When you hear of the death and resurrection…what do you think?
    2. Do we think that’s OK for the other guy…but God could never forgive me? I’m not good enough…
    3. You are on the right track! Are we really putting our 100% faith in Jesus Christ if we think we have anything good to offer…if we think we have any ounce of righteousness on our own?
    4. Rom 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
    5. We must embrace the TRUTH that the resurrection removes all of our sin from us judicially – and that’s why God can bring us into His presence! …it is “just as if I” had never sinned.
    6. Do you believe? If so…what’s next?

Verses 15-20

  1. Our Calling!
Mark 16:15-20 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
    1. Mat 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
    2. Luk 24:45-47 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
    3. Eph 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
    4. We should be letting the love of Christ lead us in serving Him through disciple-making, service in the church, service out of the church…the giving of all that we are because He gave all that He was!
  2. Conclusion
    1. Psa 103:8-14 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. 9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. 10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.
    2. Rom 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
