Proverbs 12:22 — abomination, &c. See note on Proverbs 3:32 . they that deal truly are, &c. Some codices, with Septuagint, read "is" (singular) = he that dealeth, &c.

Proverbs 18:17 — first in his own cause. Illustrations: Saul (1 Samuel 15:13 . Compare Pro 18:26 ); Ziba (2 Samuel 16:1-3 . Compare Proverbs 19:26 ).

Ecclesiastes 5:7 — divers vanities. Plural of emphasis = great vanity: i.e. in many dreams and many words, also [there is] great vanity: referring to Ecclesiastes 5:3 above.

Isaiah 29:6 — visited. These judgments (in Isaiah 29:6 ) refer to the deliverance from Jerusalem's enemies. the LORD of hosts. See note on 1 Samuel 1:3 .

Jeremiah 13:12 — the LORD God of Israel. See note on Jeremiah 11:3 . bottle = an earthenware jar: not leathern or skin bottles. wine. Hebrew. yayin. App-27 .

Jeremiah 23:1 — the pastors = rulers. See notes on Jeremiah 2:8 ; Jeremiah 3:15 , &c. saith the LORD = [is] Jehovah's oracle. the LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 .

Jeremiah 28:2 — the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel. See note on Jeremiah 7:3 . I have broken. This was proved to be a false promise.

Jeremiah 6:25 — fear is on every side = terror is round about. Compare Jeremiah 20:3 , Jeremiah 20:10 ; Jeremiah 46:5 ; Jeremiah 49:29 . Lamentations 2:22 .

Ezekiel 17:23 — In the mountain, &c. Compare Isaiah 2:2 , Isaiah 2:3 ; Isaiah 54:1-17 ; Isaiah 62:1-7 . bring forth boughs = exalt its branch.

Daniel 2:3 — I have dreamed . Contrast this with Daniel's vision, in the Structure on p. 1178; and note the other recorded dreams (Genesis 20:3 ). was = is.

Daniel 4:5 — dream . One of twenty recorded dreams. See note on Genesis 20:3 . visions of my head, &c . Compare Daniel 4:10 , and Daniel 2:28 .

Amos 7:3 — The LORD. Hebrew. Jehovah. App-4 . repented. Figure of speech Anthropopatheia. App-6 Reference to Pentateuch (Deuteronomy 32:36 ). App-92 . Compare Jonah 3:10 .

Zechariah 5:1 — looked = This is the sixth vision. See the Structure on p. 1281. roll = scroll. Hence our word "volume". Compare Ezekiel 2:9 - Zec 3:11 .

John 16:27 — loveth. Greek. phileo. App-135 . believed . App-150 . from = from beside. Greek. para. App-104 . Compare John 8:42 ; John 13:3 ; John 17:8 .

Acts 3:17 — wot = know, as in Acts 3:16 . through = according to. Greek. kata. App-104 . did also, &c. = your rulers also (did). Compare Luke 23:34 .
