Therefore I fled = hasted to flee. The reason follows, as explained in note on Jonah 4:1 .
I knew. This was well known, from Jehovah's revelation of Himself. Jonah knew, and referred to the Pentateuch (Exodus 34:6 . Numbers 14:18 , Numbers 14:19 ). David knew (Psalms 86:5 ). Hosea knew (Hosea 11:8 , Hosea 11:9 ). Joel knew (Joel 2:13 ). Micah knew (Micah 7:18 ). Jonah's knowledge explains his flight (Jonah 1:3 ). No one could tall us this but himself. GOD.
Micah 4:8
tower of the flock. Hebrew tower of 'Eder. Reference to Pentateuch (Genesis 35:21 ; nowhere else). Used here of Bethlehem (compare Genesis 35:19 with Micah 5:2 ); coupled here with "Ophel" in next clause, "David's birth-place" and "David's city".
the stronghold. Hebrew ' Ophel. See App-68 and App-54 , line 21, "citadel",
Zephaniah 2:4
For Gaza. Supply the logical Ellipsis ( App-6 ), here, and in verses: Zep 8:12 , Zep 8:13 , Zephaniah 3:1 , thus: "[Mine anger shall be upon Gaza, saith the Lord ], For", &c.
Gaza . . . forsaken. Note the Figure of speech Paronomasia ( App-6 ), for emphasis. Heb 'azzah . . . 'azubah.
Ashkelon. Now 'Askalan, on the coast of Philistia.
Zechariah 1:3 chs. 1-8, and nine times in chs. 9-14. It is characteristic of this book twenty-nine times it is with the verbs saith or speaketh. All are referred to in the notes.
Turn = Return. Note the Figure of speech Epimone ( App-6 ), in verses: Zechariah 1:3-6 , in which the fact is emphasised by dwelling upon it as the cause of all Jehovah's displeasure.

he was angry . Referring to the deep-seated feeling of the Pharisees against Messiah and those who followed Him. This increased steadily (and is seen to-day).
