Verses 1-45
Jos_21:1-42 tells the cities that were given to the Levites so they would have a place to keep their cattle (compare Num_35:1-8 ). Verses 43-45 tell us God gave Israel all the land he had promised to the fathers ( Gen_12:7 ; Gen_15:18 ). He gave them rest and no enemy was able to stand against them. In fact, their enemies had been given into their hands and they could easily have driven the rest out if they had have been so minded. So, God kept every part of his promise, though Israel did not take advantage of it through simple obedience ( Exo_33:14 ; Deu_12:9-10 ).
