A person who has missed God's mark for life, rebelling against Him. The Bible considers every person a sinner (Romans 3:23 ). In the Old Testament people who do not live by the law were considered sinners (Psalm 1:1 ). The New Testament uses anomie in a similar way ( 1 Timothy 1:9 ). Jews regarded Gentiles as sinners (Galatians 2:15 ) as also people who did not keep the tradition of the Pharisees, including Jesus (Matthew 11:19; see Luke 15:1 ). Paul spoke of sinners as those separated from God (Romans 5:8 ). See Law; Salvation; Sin .
