And put themselves in array

וַיַּעַרְכ֨וּ

the Philistines

array to meet

when they joined

ham·mil·ḥā·māh,

הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה

and was struck

way·yin·nā·ḡep̄

וַיִּנָּ֥גֶף

p̄ə·liš·tîm;

פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים

and they slew

on the battlefield

ḇam·ma·‘ă·rā·ḵāh

בַמַּֽעֲרָכָה֙

in the field

kə·’ar·ba·‘aṯ

כְּאַרְבַּ֥עַת

ham·ma·ḥă·neh

הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֒

way·yō·mə·rū

וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙

nə·ḡā·p̄ā·nū

has the LORD us

p̄ə·liš·tîm;

פְלִשְׁתִּ֑ים

Let us fetch

ourselves from Shiloh

of the covenant

of the LORD us

when it comes

ḇə·qir·bê·nū,

בְקִרְבֵּ֔נוּ

it may save us

wə·yō·ši·‘ê·nū

וְיֹשִׁעֵ֖נוּ

out of the hand

of our enemies

’ō·yə·ḇê·nū.

אֹיְבֵֽינוּ׃

וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח

that they might bring

וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ

of the covenant

[between] the cherubim

hak·kə·ru·ḇîm;

הַכְּרֻבִ֑ים

of the covenant

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

and Phinehas

ū·p̄î·nə·ḥās.

וּפִֽינְחָֽס׃

when the ark

of the covenant

ham·ma·ḥă·neh,

הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה

way·yā·ri·‘ū

with a great

ḡə·ḏō·w·lāh;

so that the earth

way·yiš·mə·‘ū

וַיִּשְׁמְע֤וּ

the Philistines

פְלִשְׁתִּים֙

of the shout

hat·tə·rū·‘āh,

הַתְּרוּעָ֔ה

and they said

way·yō·mə·rū,

וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ

[meaneth] the noise

hat·tə·rū·‘āh

הַתְּרוּעָ֧ה

hag·gə·ḏō·w·lāh

הַגְּדוֹלָ֛ה

bə·ma·ḥă·nêh

of the Hebrews

that they understood

way·yê·ḏə·‘ū,

וַיֵּ֣דְע֔וּ

ham·ma·ḥă·neh.

הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

And were afraid

וַיִּֽרְאוּ֙

the Philistines

hap·pə·liš·tîm,

הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

ham·ma·ḥă·neh;

הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה

And they said

way·yō·mə·rū

וַיֹּאמְרוּ֙

such a thing

shall deliver us

yaṣ·ṣî·lê·nū,

יַצִּילֵ֔נוּ

out of the hand

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

hā·’ad·dî·rîm

הָאַדִּירִ֖ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

the Egyptians

in the wilderness

bam·miḏ·bār.

בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃

hiṯ·ḥaz·zə·qū

הִֽתְחַזְּק֞וּ

yourselves like men

la·’ă·nā·šîm

לַֽאֲנָשִׁים֙

O you Philistines

פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

that you be not servants

to the Hebrews

they have been

la·’ă·nā·šîm

לַאֲנָשִׁ֖ים

wə·nil·ḥam·tem.

וְנִלְחַמְתֶּֽם׃

way·yil·lā·ḥă·mū

וַיִּלָּחֲמ֣וּ

the Philistines

p̄ə·liš·tîm,

פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים

and was struck

way·yin·nā·ḡep̄

וַיִּנָּ֤גֶף

and they fled

way·yā·nu·sū

וַיָּנֻ֙סוּ֙

lə·’ō·hā·lāw,

and there was

for there fell

mî·yiś·rā·’êl,

מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

and Phinehas

ū·p̄î·nə·ḥās.

וּפִֽינְחָֽס׃

And there ran

from the battle

mê·ham·ma·‘ă·rā·ḵāh,

מֵהַמַּ֣עֲרָכָ֔ה

and with his clothes

and with earth

wa·’ă·ḏā·māh

when he came

way·yā·ḇō·w,

by the wayside

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm;

when the man

into the city

and cried out

וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע

of the crying

haṣ·ṣə·‘ā·qāh,

[meaneth] the noise

and his eyes

ham·ma·‘ă·rā·ḵāh,

הַמַּעֲרָכָ֔ה

ham·ma·‘ă·rā·ḵāh

הַמַּעֲרָכָ֖ה

And answered

the messenger

הַֽמְבַשֵּׂ֜ר

p̄ə·liš·tîm,

פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים

there has been

among the people

and Phinehas

ū·p̄î·nə·ḥās,

וּפִ֣ינְחָ֔ס

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

when it came to pass

he made mention

kə·haz·kî·rōw

כְּהַזְכִּיר֣וֹ ׀

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

that he fell

’ă·ḥō·ran·nîṯ

אֲחֹ֨רַנִּ֜ית

wat·tiš·šā·ḇêr

וַתִּשָּׁבֵ֤ר

map̄·raq·tōw

מַפְרַקְתּוֹ֙

he was an old

אַרְבָּעִ֥ים

And his daughter-in-law

wə·ḵal·lā·ṯōw

was with child

[near] to be delivered

when she heard

וַתִּשְׁמַ֣ע

haš·šə·mu·‘āh,

הַשְּׁמֻעָ֔ה

that the ark

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

that were dead

her father-in-law

and her husband

and she bowed herself

and travailed

and about the time

of her death

and by her said

wat·tə·ḏab·bê·rə·nāh

וַתְּדַבֵּ֙רְנָה֙

the women that stood

han·niṣ·ṣā·ḇō·wṯ

הַנִּצָּב֣וֹת

you have born

do she answered

And she named

mî·yiś·rā·’êl;

מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

of her father-in-law

and her husband

וְאִישָֽׁהּ׃

And she said

mî·yiś·rā·’êl;

מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm.

הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃
