And it came to pass

of the Ammonites

וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ

in his place

תַּחְתָּֽיו׃

covenant loyalty

as his father

וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח

to console him

of his servants

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙

into the land

of the Ammonites

וַיֹּאמְרוּ֩

of the Ammonites

’ă·ḏō·nê·hem,

אֲדֹֽנֵיהֶ֗ם

does honor you

הַֽמְכַבֵּ֨ד

bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā,

בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ

mə·na·ḥă·mîm;

מְנַֽחֲמִ֑ים

to thee? has not

to you in order

and to spy it out

ū·lə·rag·gə·lāh

וּלְרַגְּלָ֣הּ

and to overthrow

ū·lə·hā·p̄ə·ḵāh,

וּלְהָפְכָ֔הּ

[rather] sent

his servants

and shaved off

the one half

of their beards

their garments

in the middle

[even] their buttocks

šə·ṯō·w·ṯê·hem;

שְׁתֽוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם

and sent them away

way·šal·lə·ḥêm.

וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵֽם׃

when they told [it]

way·yag·gi·ḏū

וַיַּגִּ֤דוּ

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח

to meet them

because the men

hā·’ă·nā·šîm

הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים

were greatly

Then [then] return

וְשַׁבְתֶּֽם׃

the children

way·yiš·lə·ḥū

וַיִּשְׁלְח֣וּ

the children

way·yiś·kə·rū

וַיִּשְׂכְּרוּ֩

of Beth-rehob

וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע

וַיִּשְׁלַח֙

of the mighty men

hag·gib·bō·rîm.

הַגִּבֹּרִֽים׃

And came out

way·yê·ṣə·’ū

וַיֵּֽצְאוּ֙

the children

and in array

way·ya·‘ar·ḵū

וַיַּעַרְכ֥וּ

put the battle

at the entering

in of the gate

and the Syrians

and of Rehob

and Maacah [were]

ū·ma·‘ă·ḵāh,

by themselves

in the field

בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃

of the battle him

ham·mil·ḥā·māh,

הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה

ū·mê·’ā·ḥō·wr;

וּמֵֽאָח֑וֹר

and he chose

way·yiḇ·ḥar,

[bə·yiś·rā·’êl

[בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל

(yiś·rā·’êl,

(יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

[them] and put in array

way·ya·‘ă·rōḵ

וַֽיַּעֲרֹ֖ךְ

of the people

he delivered

[them] that he might put in array

way·ya·‘ă·rōḵ

וַֽיַּעֲרֹ֕ךְ

the children

be too strong

then you shall

wə·hā·yi·ṯāh

לִֽישׁוּעָ֑ה

the children

be too strong

then I will come

wə·hā·laḵ·tî

וְהָלַכְתִּ֖י

lə·hō·wō·šî·a‘

לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַֽ

Be of good courage

and let us play the men

wə·niṯ·ḥaz·zaq

וְנִתְחַזַּק֙

for the sake

’ĕ·lō·hê·nū;

in His sight

בְּעֵינָֽיו׃

And drew near

that the people

to the battle

lam·mil·ḥā·māh

לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה

against the Arameans

and they fled

way·yā·nu·sū

when the children

way·yā·nu·sū

וַיָּנֻ֙סוּ֙

they also before

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

into the city

and returned

from [fighting] against

the children

to Jerusalem

yə·rū·šā·lim.

יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

they were struck

and they gathered

way·yê·’ā·sə·p̄ū

וַיֵּאָסְפ֖וּ

themselves together

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח

hă·ḏaḏ·‘e·zer,

הֲדַדְעֶ֗זֶר

and brought out

and they came

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

of Hadadezer

hă·ḏaḏ·‘e·zer

הֲדַדְעֶ֖זֶר

[went] before

lip̄·nê·hem.

לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃

when it was told

and he gathered

way·ye·’ĕ·sōp̄

and passed over

way·ya·‘ă·ḇōr

hay·yar·dên,

הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן

And set themselves in array

way·ya·‘ar·ḵū

וַיַּעַרְכ֤וּ

way·yil·lā·ḥă·mū

וַיִּלָּחֲמ֖וּ

way·ya·hă·rōḡ

of the Arameans

[the men of] seven

wə·’ar·bā·‘îm

וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים

of their host

and who died

ham·mə·lā·ḵîm

הַמְּלָכִ֜ים

[that were] servants

of Hadadezer

hă·ḏaḏ·‘e·zer,

הֲדַדְעֶ֗זֶר

they were struck

and they made peace

way·yaš·li·mū

וַיַּשְׁלִ֥מוּ

way·ya·‘aḇ·ḏūm;

וַיַּֽעַבְד֑וּם

and feared them

וַיִּֽרְא֣וּ

So the Syrians

lə·hō·wō·šî·a‘

לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ
