I fut. -ψω LXX Genesis 9:24 : — sleep off a drunken fit, become sober again, l.c., Hippoloch. ap. Ath. 4.130b, AP 5.134, Plu. Dem. 20: metaph., 1 Corinthians 15:34 : c. gen., recover from, χάρμῃ ἐ. τῆς δυσθυμίης Aret. SD 1.5.
II trans., carry off, ἀρρώστημα ἐκνήψει ὕπνος LXX Si. 34(31).2 (dub.).
ἐκνήφω: 1 aorist ἐξενηψα;
a. properly, to return to oneself from drunkenness, become sober (Genesis 9:24; (1 Samuel 25:37); Joel 1:5; (Sir. 34:2 (Sir. 31:2)); Lynceus quoted in Ath. 4, 5, p. 130 b.).
b. metaphorically, to return to soberness of mind (cf. ἀνανήφω): 1 Corinthians 15:34 (Plutarch, Demosthenes 20).

Nägeli (p. 33) reckons this strong non-classical word as belonging to the higher Κοινή and pointing to Paul’s true Hellenism. In 1 Corinthians 15:34, the only place where it occurs in the NT, ἐκνήψατε should have its full force, ";get sober out of your drunken condition.";
