ἐνωτίζομαι, (οὖς)
give ear, hearken to, λόγους LXX Genesis 4:23; ῥήματα Acts 2:14 : c.dat., ἐντολαῖς LXX Exodus 15:26.
ἐνωτίζομαι: in Biblical writings deponent middle; 1 aorist imperative 2 person plural ἐνωτίσασθε; equivalent to ἐν ὠτίοις δέχομαι (Hesychius), to receive into the ear; give ear to: τί, Acts 2:14; the Sept. for הֶאֱזִין; elsewhere only in ecclesiastical and Byzantine writings, and in these also as deponent passive. Cf. Fischer, De vitiis lexicc., p. 693f; (Sturz, Dial. Alex., p. 166; Winer's Grammar, 33).

Vorstius de Hebraismis NT, p. 10 ff. questions the coinage of this word by the LXX translators in order to render the Heb. הֶאֶוֶיד, and thinks that it was already in use in common speech (";non noviter ea a Graecis Interpretibus, aut a scriptoribus N.T., est fabricata; sed in vulgari sermone obtinuerat iam ante";). Anz, however, regards (p. 378) the constr. with the dat. found in Exodus 15:26 BAF as due to Hebraistic influence ( לְמִצְוֹתָיו וְהַֽאַוַנְתָּ). We are unable to cite any ex. of the verb from vernacular sources, but ἐνώτιον ";earring,"; as in Exodus 35:22, Isaiah 3:20, is fairly common, e.g. BGU IV. 1101.7 (B.C. 13) ἐνωτίω (ν) χ ̣ρ ̣υ ̣σ ̣(ῶν), P Ryl II. 124.30 (i/A.D.) ἐν ̣ω ̣διον χρυσοῦν, al. : in P Petr I. 12.24 we find the form ἐνώιδιον, as in Attic inscrr. from B.C. 398 onwards, cf. Meisterhans Gr. pp. 65, 79.
