cover all round, πολέμοιο νέφος περὶ πάντα καλύπτει Il. 17.243, cf. 10.201; π. δένδρεον πίλῳ Hdt. 4.23; τινὰ ἱματίοισι or ἐν ἱματίῳ, Hp. Aph. 5.59, X. Cyr. 7.3.14: metaph., π. σωτηρία τοὺς νόμους Pl. Lg. 793b; τὸ θνητὸν περικάλυπτε τῷ θεῷ (sc. Διονύσῳ ), i.e. get drunk, Diph. 20; τὰ πάθη Plu. 2.100f; π. καὶ ἀρνεῖσθαι ib.1013e: — Med. and Pass., cover oneself all round, ib. 51d, etc.

περικαλύπτω; 1 aorist participle περικαλυψας; perfect passive participle περικεκαλυμμενος; from Homer down; to cover all around (περί, III. 1), to cover up, cover over: τό πρόσωπον, Mark 14:65; Luke 22:64 (A. V. blindfold); τί χρυσίῳ, Hebrews 9:4 (Exodus 28:20).
