I fut. -ευρήσω: aor. -εῦρον, later -ευράμην A.R. 4.1133: Pass., aor. -ευρέθην: — find out, discover, Hdt. 1.67, 2.54, etc.; ἀγαθὰ ἀ. λογιζόμενος Id. 7.8. γ; ἀ. φόνον A. Ag. 1094; σὸν χρέος ἀνευρίσκειν πότερον.. E. IT 883; ἀ. τὴν αἰτίαν Pl. Phd. 100b; τὴν τοῦ θεοῦ φύσιν Phdr. 252e, etc.: Med., win, gain, ἱερὸν χῶρον ἀνευρομένην Epigr.Gr. 259: Pass., to be found out or discovered, ὡς ὕστερον ἀνευρέθη Th. 1.128: c. part., ἀνεύρηται ὁμοῖα παρεχομένη Hdt. 4.44.

ἀνευρίσκω: 2 aorist ἀνεῦρον, 3 person plural ἀνεῦραν, Luke 2:16 (T Tr WH; see εὑρίσκω); to find out by search: τινα, Luke 2:16; Acts 21:4. (In Greek writings from Herodotus down.) Cf. Winer's De verb. comp. etc. Part iii., p. 13f.

Vocabulary of the Greek NT

Syll 154 bis (late iv/B.C.), 803.26 (iii/B.C.). The adjective ἀνεύρετος is found on the recto of P Amh II. 125 (late i/A.D.), where a petition concludes, οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ αυ ̣̓τ ̣ω ̣̑[ν ἐν ] συνώδῳ ἄνδ (ρες) κ ̄ε ̅̄ ἀνεύρητοι ἐγένοιτο (l. ἀνεύρετοι ἐγένοντο), καὶ ἀφήλπακαν) (l. ἀφήρπακαν) ἡμῶν ἱμάτια κτλ.
