συνγνώμη, in NT only in 1 Corinthians 7:6, with meaning ";concession,"; ";allowance"; for circumstances (ex concessione, non ex imperio, Beza). From this there is an easy transition to the sense of ";pardon"; : cf. P Cairo Zen I. 59044.37 (B.C. 257) καλῶς δ ̣᾽ α ̣̑ν ̣ ποιοῖς κ ̣α ̣ι ̣̣ σ ̣υ ̣γγνώμην ἡμῖν ἔχων, P Tebt I. 27.48 (B.C. 113) (= Chrest. I. p. 389) διαλαβὼν μηδεμιᾶς τεύξεσθαι συνγνώμης ὀλιγωρηθέντος τινός, ";believing that you will receive no pardon for any neglect"; (Edd.), P Flor I. 61.15 (A.D. 86–88) συ [γ ]γνώμην αἰτούμενος ἐπεὶ ἐπλανήθη περὶ τὴν ἔντευξιν, P Oxy VI. 939.10 (iv/A.D.)
