Hiph`il Perfect 3 plural הִמְסִיו Joshua 14:8 (on form see Ges§ 75 R.17). Imperfect sf . יַּעמסֵם Psalm 147:18; 2 masculine singular וַתֶּ֫מֶס Psalm 39:12; אַמְסֶה Psalm 6:7; — cause to dissolve, melt, ice Psalm 147:18; hyperb. בְּדִמְעָתִי עַרְשִׁי אַמְּסֶה Psalm 6:7 with my tears I cause my bed to dissolve; וַתֶּמֶס כָּעָשׁ חֲמוּדוֺ Psalm 39:12 = consume, cause to vanish; figurative followed by לֵב = intimidate Joshua 14:8.

מָסָה i.q. מָסַס and מָאַס No. II., to melt, to flow down. (Chald. מְסָא, Syriac ܡܣܐܳ to be decayed, to putrify; Eth. መሰወ፡ to melt.)

Hiphil, to melt, to dissolve. Psalms 6:7, בְּדִמְעָתִי עַרְשִׂי אַמְסֶה “I dissolve (as it were) my couch with tears.” Psalms 147:18 fut. apoc. וַתֶּמֶס Psalms 39:12 trop. to melt the heart, i.e. to terrify; plur. הִמְסִיו in the Chald. form for הִמְסוּ Joshua 14:8.
