Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

סָבָא to drink, to drink to excess, to tope. (The primary idea appears to be that of sucking up, absorbing, which is expressed by onomatopoetic words, as شرب, sorbere; with the insertion of l, fchlürfen; with the omission of ר, Anglo-Sax., supan; Germ. faufen; [Eng. to sup;] and in Greek, by the omission of the sibilant, ῥοφέω. שָׂבַע appears to be of the same origin), Isaiah 56:12. Part. סֹבֵא a drunkard, Deuter. 21:20 Proverbs 23:20, 21 Proverbs 23:21. Part. pass. סָבוּא drunken, Nahum 1:10. Hence
