Buttmann, 52 (46))); future passive, χαρισθήσομαι with a passive significance (Philemon 1:22); (χάρις); often in Greek writings from Homer down; to do something pleasant or agreeable (to one), to do a favor to, gratify;

a. universally, to show oneself gracious, kind, benevolent: τίνι, Galatians 3:18 (others, (supply τήν κληρονομίαν and) refer this to c. below).

b. to grant forgiveness, to pardon: 2 Corinthians 2:7; with a dative of the person, Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13; with an accusative of the thing, 2 Corinthians 2:10 (cf. Winer's Grammar, § 39, 1 b. and 3 N. 3); τίνι τήν ἀδικίαν, 2 Corinthians 12:13; τά παραπτώματα, Colossians 2:13.

1. to show favour or kindness: c. dat. pers., Galatians 3:18.

2. to give freely, bestow: c. acc et dat., Luke 7:21, Acts 3:14; Acts 25:11; Acts 25:16; Acts 27:24, Romans 8:32, 1 Corinthians 2:12, Philippians 1:29; Philippians 2:9, Philemon 1:22.

3. In late Gk. (= Lat. condonare), to grant forgiveness, forgive freely: of debt, Luke 7:42-43 (EGT, in l); of sin, 2 Corinthians 2:7; 2 Corinthians 2:10; 2 Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 2:13; Colossians 3:13 (cf. DB, ii, 57a).†
