מָלַךְ f. יִמְלֹךְ.

(1)  to reign, to be king. (Eth. መለከ፡ id.; Arab. مَلَكَ to possess, to reign; Syr. and Ch. to consult, compare Lat. consulere for judicare, statuere (whence consul), and the Old Germ. rathen for to rule, to govern; compare Niphal.) 1 Kings 6:1; 2 Kings 24:12, 25:27 followed by עַל 1 Samuel 8:7, 12:14 Psalms 47:9, and בְּ Joshua 13:12, 21 Joshua 13:21 (to rule over, herrfchen über), although בְּ is also not unfrequently בְּ of place, Judges 4:2, herrfchen zu, to reign in.

(2) to become king, 2 Samuel 15:10, 16:8 1 Kings 14:21.

Hiphil, to make king, followed by an acc. 1 Samuel 15:35; 1 Kings 1:43 dat. 1 Chronicles 29:22 (as if to give the kingdom to any one).

Hophal הָכְזלַךְ to be made king, Daniel 9:1.

Niphal, to consult, Nehemiah 5:7 see the Syriac usage pointed out above.
