The LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you will only move upward and never downward, if you hear and carefully follow the commandments of the LORD your God, which I am giving you today.

If, however, you do not obey the LORD your God by carefully following all His commandments and statutes I am giving you today, all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:

You ate no bread or drink wine or strong drink, so that you might know that I am the LORD your God.

I am making this covenant and this oath not only with you,

and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey His voice with all your heart and all your soul according to everything I am giving you today,

And you will again obey the voice of the LORD and follow all His commandments I am giving you today.

For I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and increase, and the LORD your God may bless you in the land you are entering to possess.

"I am now a hundred and twenty years old; I am no longer able to come and go, and the LORD has said to me, 'You shall not cross the Jordan.'

For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you are already rebelling against the LORD while I am still alive, how much more will you rebel after my death!

See now that I am He; there is no God besides Me. I bring death and I give life; I wound and I heal, and there is no one who can deliver from My hand.

"Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount Nebo, in the land of Moab across from Jericho, and view the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites as their own possession.

Although you shall see from a distance the land that I am giving the Israelites, you shall not enter it."

"Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore arise, you and all these people, and cross over the Jordan into the land I am giving to the children of Israel.

Now the LORD said to Joshua, "Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you, just as I was with Moses.

Now behold, as the LORD promised, He has kept me alive these forty-five years since He spoke this word to Moses, while Israel wandered in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old,

he summoned all Israel, including its elders, leaders, judges, and officers. "I am old and advanced in years," he said,

Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know with all your heart and soul that not one of the good promises the LORD your God made to you has failed. Everything was fulfilled for you; not one promise has failed.

Sisera said to her, "Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty." So she opened a container of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him again.

And I said to you: 'I am the LORD your God. You must not worship the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.' But you did not obey Me."

The LORD turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian. Am I not sending you?"
