But the earth will be desolate because of its inhabitants, for the fruit of their doings.

those who bow down on the roofs to the host of the heavens; those who bow down and swear to the Lord , but also swear by Milcom;

The Lord within it is righteous; he does no wrong. Every morning he renders his judgment, each dawn without fail; but the unjust knows no shame.

I said, "Surely the city will fear me, it will accept correction; it will not lose sight of all that I have brought upon it." But they were the more eager to make all their deeds corrupt.

You have sown much, and harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and you that earn wages earn wages to put them into a bag with holes.

But now, consider what will come to pass from this day on. Before a stone was placed upon a stone in the Lord 's temple,

how did you fare? When one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were but twenty.

But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your ancestors? So they repented and said, "The Lord of hosts has dealt with us according to our ways and deeds, just as he planned to do."

And I asked, "What are they coming to do?" He answered, "These are the horns that scattered Judah, so that no head could be raised; but these have come to terrify them, to strike down the horns of the nations that lifted up their horns against the land of Judah to scatter its people."

He said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts.

But they refused to listen, and turned a stubborn shoulder, and stopped their ears in order not to hear.

But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people as in the former days, says the Lord of hosts.

Just as you have been a cursing among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you and you shall be a blessing. Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong.

But now, the Lord will strip it of its possessions and hurl its wealth into the sea, and it shall be devoured by fire.
