but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost.

They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. "Don't be afraid," he said. "Take courage! I am here!"

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?

So they kept it to themselves, but they often asked each other what he meant by "rising from the dead."

But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they chose to abuse him, just as the Scriptures predicted."

So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.
