Won't God give justice to his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay long to help them?

The tax collector, however, stood far off and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, be merciful to me, sinner that I am!'

I tell you that this man went down to his home justified rather than the Pharisee. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted."

And immediately he regained his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they too gave praise to God.

And he summoned ten of his slaves, gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business with these until I come back.'

But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to be king over us!'

And he said to his attendants, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has ten.'

As he approached the road leading down from the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen:

but they could not find a way to do it, for all the people hung on his words.

When harvest time came, he sent a slave to the tenants so that they would give him his portion of the crop. However, the tenants beat his slave and sent him away empty-handed.

Thus they were unable in the presence of the people to trap him with his own words. And stunned by his answer, they fell silent.

They asked him, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies leaving a wife but no children, that man must marry the widow and father children for his brother .

If David then calls him ‘Lord,' how can he be his son?"

As all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples,

Now when the hour came, Jesus took his place at the table and the apostles joined him.

He said to them, "But now, the one who has a money bag must take it, and likewise a traveler's bag too. And the one who has no sword must sell his cloak and buy one.

Then Jesus went out and made his way, as he customarily did, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.

And in his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.]

Then one of them struck the high priest's slave, cutting off his right ear.

Then they said, "Why do we need further testimony? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips!"
