Mark 8:34-38; Luke 9:23-26">[xr] Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

Mark 9:1-13; Luke 9:27-36; 2 Peter 1:16-18">[xr] Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom."

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves;

and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.

And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?"

Mark 9:42-48; Luke 17:1,2">[xr] "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

"Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.

Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.

But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made.

"But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, "Pay me what you owe!'

So his fellow servant fell down at his feet [fn] and begged him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.' [fn]

So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done.

Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, "You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me.

And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.

35 So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses." [fn]

The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?"

and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? Genesis 2:24">[fn]
