His parents said this because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if any one should confess him to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.

Therefore his parents said, "He is of age, ask him."

He answered them, "I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you too want to become his disciples?"

And they reviled him, saying, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if any one is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.

To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Laz'arus was ill.

Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep.

Thomas, called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him."

Then Mary, when she came where Jesus was and saw him, fell at his feet, saying to him, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."

He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation,

Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.

But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him), said,

His disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been done to him.

He who loves his life loses it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him.
