and smote him on his face, and said: Prophesy thou, who smote thee?

They say: What further need have we of witnesses? For we have heard from his own mouth.

And Herod and his warriors contemned him. And when he had mocked him, he clothed him in a purple robe, and sent him to Pilate.

And when they came to a certain place which is called a Skull, they crucified him there; and the two malefactors, the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

And Jesus said: Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they divided his garments, casting a lot upon them.

But his fellow [fn] rebuked him, said to him: Art thou not afraid even of God, seeing thou art under the same sentence?

And they remembered his words.

Were not these things to be; that the Messiah should suffer and that he should enter into his glory?

And as he said thus, he showed them his hands and his feet.

and that, in his name, repentance for the remission of sins should be preached among all nations, and that the commencement be at Jerusalem.

And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifted his hands, and blessed them.

Every thing was by his hand; and without him, was not any thing whatever that existed.

He was in the world; and the world was by his hand; and the world did not know him.

He came to his own [fn] ; and his own [fn] received him not.

But such as received him, to them gave he the prerogative to be children of God; [fn] to them that believe on his name;

And the: Word became flesh, and tabernacled with us: and we saw his glory, a glory as of the only begotten from the Father, that he was full of grace and truth.

And of his plenitude have we all received, and grace for grace.

18 No man hath ever seen God; the only begotten God, he who is in the bosom of his Father, he hath declared [fn] .

And the next day, John was standing, and two of his disciples.

And his two disciples heard him when he said [fn] , and they went after Jesus.
