I have come in my Father's name, and you do not accept me. Yet if another man comes in his own name, you will accept him.

But Jesus went up on a hillside and sat down there with his disciples.

One of his disciples, Andrew, who was Simon Peter's brother, said to him,

When they were completely satisfied, he told his disciples, "Collect the pieces that are left over so that nothing is lost."

When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,Matthew 14:23; Mark 6:47;">[xr]

The next day, the crowd that had remained on the other side of the sea noticed that only one boat had been there, and no other, and that Jesus had not gotten into that boat with his disciples. Instead, his disciples had gone away by themselves.

When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into these boats and went to Capernaum to look for Jesus.

Do not work for the food that perishes but for the food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal."Matthew 3:17; 17:5; Mark 1:11; 9:7; Luke 3:22; 9:35; John 1:33; 4:14; 5:37; 6:54; 8:18; Acts 2:22; 2 Peter 1:17;">[xr]

Then the Jews debated angrily with each other, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"John 3:9; 7:43; 9:16; 10:19;">[xr]

So Jesus told them, "Truly, truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves.Matthew 26:26,28;">[xr]

When many of his disciples heard this, they said, "This is a difficult statement. Who can acceptlisten to">[fn] it?"Matthew 11:6; John 6:66;">[xr]

But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples were grumbling about this, said to them, "Does this offend you?

As a result,From this time">[fn] many of his disciples turned back and no longer associatedwalked">[fn] with him.John 6:60;">[xr]

So his brothers said to him, "You should leave this place and go to Judea, so that your disciples can see the works that you're doing.Matthew 12:46; Mark 3:31; Acts 1:14;">[xr]

For not even his brothers believed in him.Mark 3:21;">[xr]

But after his brothers had gone up to the festival, he went up himself, not openly but, as it were,as it were">[fn] in secret.

If anyone wants to do his will, he will know whether this teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own.John 8:43;">[xr]

The one who speaks on his own seeks his own praise. But the one who seeks the praise of him who sent him is true, and there is nothing false in him.John 5:41; 8:50;">[xr]

Then they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him because his hour had not yet come.Mark 11:18; Luke 19:47; 20:19; John 8:20,37, 44; 20:19;">[xr]

The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have rivers of living water flowing from his heart."Deuteronomy 18:15; Proverbs 18:4; Isaiah 12:3; 44:3; John 4:14;">[xr]
