Let there be none to extend kindness to him; Neither let there be any to have pity on his fatherless children.

Both young men and virgins; Old men and children:

If a man begets a hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not filled with good, and moreover he has no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he:

For you have forsaken your people the house of Jacob, because they are filled [with customs] from the east, and [are] omen interpreters like the Philistines, and they strike hands with the children of foreigners.

And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

As for my people, children are their oppressors, and usurers rule over them. O my people, those that lead you cause you to err, and destroy the way of your paths.

Look, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Yahweh of hosts, who dwells in mount Zion.

But when he sees his children, the work of my hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name; yes, they shall sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall stand in awe of the God of Israel.

Now therefore hear this, you that are given to pleasures, that sit securely, that say in your heart, I am, and there is no other besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

but these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood; in their full measure they shall come on you, in the multitude of your witchcraft, and the great abundance of your magic words.

Then you shall say in your heart, Who has begotten me these, seeing I have been bereaved of my children, and am solitary, an exile, and wandering to and fro? and who has brought these up? Look, I was left alone; these, where were they?

Against whom do you sport yourselves? against whom do you make a wide mouth, and put out the tongue? are you not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood,

you that inflame yourselves among the oaks, under every green tree; that slay the children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks?

Therefore I am full of the wrath of Yahweh; I am weary with holding in: pour it out on the children in the street, and on the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

For death has come up into our windows, it has entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from outside, [and] the young men from the streets.

And I have winnowed them with a fan in the gates of the land; I have bereaved [them] of children, I have destroyed my people; they didn't return from their ways.

Now when all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

Then Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, [to wit], the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon:

the [able-bodied] men, and the women, and the children, and the king's daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah;

Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in me.
