saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocentrighteous">[fn] blood."But they said, "What do we care? See to that yourself."

Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was about to break out instead. So he took some water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man'sthis righteous man's">[fn] blood. You must see to that yourselves."Deuteronomy 21:6;">[xr]

But the others kept saying, "Wait! Let's see if Elijah will come and save him."save him." And another took a spear and pierced his side, and water and blood came out.">[fn]

The peopleThey">[fn] watched Jesushim">[fn] closely to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, intending to accuse him of doing something wrong.

Now when those who had been taking care of the pigs ran away, they reported what had happenedthey reported it">[fn] in the city and countryside. So the peoplethey">[fn] went to see what had happened.

His disciples said to him, "You see the crowd jostling you, and yet you ask, 'Who touched me?'"

But he kept looking around to see the woman who had done this.

Do you have eyes but fail to see? Do you have ears but fail to hear?Jeremiah 5:21">[fn] Don't you remember?
