God enlarge Japheth, And let him dwell in the tents of Shem; And let Canaan be his slave.

Of these were the isles of the nations divided in their lands, every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, and Accad-all of them in the land of Shinar.

And Canaan begot Sidon his first-born, and Heth,

And to Eber were born two sons: The name of the one was Peleg. For in his days was the earth divided. And his brother's name was Joktan.

And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and he had them go out from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran, and dwelt there.

And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

And he removed from there to the mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Ai on the east: and there he built an altar to Yahweh, and called on the name of Yahweh.

And it came to pass, when he came near to enter into Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, Now see, I know that you are a fair woman to look at:

and it will come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see you, that they will say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save you alive.

And Yahweh plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife.

And Pharaoh gave men charge concerning him: and they brought him on the way, and his wife, and all that he had.

And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South.

And he went on his journeys from the South even to Beth-el, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Ai,

And Lot lifted up his eyes, and saw all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you go to Zoar.

Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built there an altar to Yahweh.

And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he mobilized his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued as far as Dan.
