Rebuke your mother; rebuke her.For she is not my wife and I am not her husband.Let her remove the promiscuous look from her faceand her adultery from between her breasts.

Therefore, I am going to persuade her,lead her to the wilderness,and speak tenderly to her.

So I am like rot to Ephraimand like decay to the house of Judah.

For I am like a lion to Ephraimand like a young lion to the house of Judah.Yes, I will tear them to pieces and depart.I will carry them off,and no one can rescue them.

What am I going to do with you, Ephraim?What am I going to do with you, Judah?Your love is like the morning mistand like the early dew that vanishes.

I will not vent the full fury of my anger;I will not turn back to destroy Ephraim.For I am God and not man,the Holy One among you;I will not come in rage.

Ephraim, why should I have anything moreto do with idols?It is I who answer and watch over him.I am like a flourishing pine tree;your fruit comes from me.

You will know that I am present in Israeland that I am the Lord your God,and there is no other.My people will never again be put to shame.

Look, I am about to rouse them up from the place where you sold them; I will bring retribution on your heads.

Beat your plows into swordsand your pruning knives into spears.Let even the weakling say, “I am a warrior.”

Then you will knowthat I am the Lord your God,who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain.Jerusalem will be holy,and foreigners will never overrun it again.

Look, I am about to crush you in your placeas a wagon crushes when full of grain.

Listen to this message that I am singing for you, a lament, house of Israel:

But look, I am raising up a nationagainst you, house of Israel—

for I am about to give the command,and I will shake the house of Israelamong all the nations,as one shakes a sieve,but not a pebble will fall to the ground.

As for me, however, I am filled with powerby the Spirit of the Lord,with justice and courage,to proclaim to Jacob his rebellionand to Israel his sin.
