Therefore, whoever rejects this instructioninstruction">[fn] is not rejecting human authority but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.Luke 10:16; 1 Corinthians 2:10; 7:40; 1 John 3:24;">[xr]

and to give us who are afflicted relief when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels1 Thessalonians 4:16; Jude 1:14; Revelation 14:13;">[xr]

Such people will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction by being separated from the Lord's presence and from his glorious powerDeuteronomy 33:2; Isaiah 2:19; Philippians 3:19; 2 Thessalonians 2:8; 2 Peter 3:7;">[xr]

when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be regarded with wonder on that day by all who have believed - including you, because you believed our testimony.Psalm 68:35; 89:7;">[xr]

With this in mind, we always pray for you, askingasking">[fn] that our God might make you worthy of his calling and that through his power he might help you accomplish every good desire and faithful work.1 Thessalonians 1:3; 2 Thessalonians 1:5;">[xr]

You know what it is that is now holding him back, so that he will be revealed when his time comes.

Therefore, an elder must be blameless, the husband of one wife,devoted to his wife; lit. a man of one woman">[fn] stable, sensible, respectable, a lover of strangers, and teachable.able to teach">[fn]1 Timothy 5:9; 2 Timothy 2:24; Titus 1:6;">[xr]

He must manage his own family well and have children who are submissive and respectful in every way.Titus 1:6;">[xr]

For if a man does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?

If anyone does not take care of his own relatives, especially his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.Isaiah 58:7; Matthew 18:17; Galatians 6:10; 2 Timothy 3:5; Titus 1:16;">[xr]

For the Scripture says, "You must not muzzle an ox while it is treading out grain,"Deuteronomy 25:4">[fn] and "A worker deserves his pay."Luke 10:7">[fn]Leviticus 19:13; Deuteronomy 24:14-15; 25:4; Matthew 10:10; Luke 10:7; 1 Corinthians 9:9;">[xr]
