Whoever has earthly possessions and notices a brother in need and yet withholds his compassion from him, how can the love of God remain in him?Deuteronomy 15:7; Luke 3:11; 1 John 4:20;">[xr]

And this is how we will know that we belong to the truth and how we will be able to establish our hearts in his presence.John 18:37; 1 John 1:8;">[xr]

Whatever we request we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.Psalm 34:15; 145:18-19; Proverbs 15:20; Jeremiah 29:12; Matthew 7:8; 21:22; Mark 11:24; John 8:29; 9:31; 14:13; 15:7; 16:23-24; James 5:16; 1 John 5:14;">[xr]

And this is his commandment: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.Matthew 22:39; John 6:29; 13:34; 15:12; 17:3; Ephesians 5:2; 1 Thessalonians 4:9; 1 Peter 4:8; 1 John 2:8,10;">[xr]

The person who keeps his commandments abides in God,in him">[fn] and God abides in him.and he in him">[fn] This is how we can be sure that he remains in us: he has given us his Spirit.John 14:23; 15:10; 17:21; Romans 8:9; 1 John 4:12-13;">[xr]

This is how God's love was revealed among us: God sent his unique Son into the world so that we might live through him.John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 8:32; 1 John 3:16; 5:11;">[xr]

This is love: not that we have lovedwe loved">[fn] God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.John 15:16; Romans 5:8,10; Titus 3:4; 1 John 2:2;">[xr]

No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.John 1:18; 1 Timothy 6:16; 1 John 2:5,18; 4:20;">[xr]

This is how we know that we abide in him and he in us: he has given us his Spirit.John 14:20; 1 John 3:24;">[xr]

We have seen for ourselves and can testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.John 1:14; 3:17; 1 John 1:1-2;">[xr]

Whoever says, "I love God," but hates his brother is a liar. The one who does not love the brother whom he has seen cannot love a God whom he has not seen.1 John 2:4;">[xr]

And this is the commandment that we have from him: the person who loves God must also love his brother.Matthew 22:37,39; John 13:34; 15:12; 1 John 3:23;">[xr]

This is how we know that we love God's children: we love God and keep his commandments.

For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not difficult,Micah 6:8; Matthew 11:30; John 14:15,21, 23; 15:10; 2 John 1:1:6;">[xr]

If we accept human testimony, God's testimony is greater, because it is the testimony of God and because he has testified about his Son.Matthew 3:16-17; 17:5; John 8:17-18;">[xr]

The person who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in himself. The person who does not believe Godthe Son">[fn] has made him a liar by not believing the testimony that God has given about his Son.John 3:33; 5:38; Romans 8:16; Galatians 4:6;">[xr]

This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is found in his Son.John 1:4; 1 John 2:25; 4:9;">[xr]

And this is the confidence that we have in him: if we ask for anything according to his will, he listens to us.1 John 3:22;">[xr]

If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray that Godhe">[fn] would give him life. This applies to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death.
