Haggai 2:23 — as a signet. Compare Song of Solomon 8:6 . Jeremiah 22:24 . See also, for this honour, Zechariah 4:7-10 ; Zechariah 6:13 ; and compare Genesis 41:42 .Esther 3:10 . chosen thee. As David and others were chosen (1 Kings 8:16 ; 1 Kings 11:34 , &c). thee. This must refer to the true prince and governor of Isaiah 9:6 , Isaiah 9:7 .
Malachi 1:12 — it = Me. "Me" was the reading in the primitive text; but the Sopherim state they altered othi (Me) to otho (him, or it) out of a (mistaken) sense of reverence. See App-33 . Compare Malachi 3:9 ; and Ezekiel 13:19 . table: i.e. the altar. the LORD = Jehovah ( App-4 .). But this is one of 134 places which the Sopherim say they altered Jehovah to "Adonai".
Malachi 2:3 — Behold. Figure of speech Asterismos App-6 . corrupt = rebuke; as in Malachi 3:11 .Psalms 106:9 . Isaiah 17:13 . Hebrew gaar. Occurs fourteen times. Always rendered rebuke" except here, and Jeremiah 29:27 ("reproved"). dung = refuse; always sacrificial. Occurs seven times. feasts . Put by Figure of speech Metonymy (of Adjunct), App-6 , for the sacrifices offered at the feasts. it : i.e. the refuse.
Matthew 15:1 — came = come. scribes, &c. = the scribes. Note the four parties addressed in this chapter: (1) scribes, &c. from Jerusalem, verses: Matthew 15:1-9 ; (2) the multitudes, verses: Matthew 15:10 , Matthew 15:11 ; (3) the disciples, verses: Matthew 15:12-14 ; (4) Peter, verses: Matthew 15:15-20 . Pharisees. See App-120 . of = away from. Greek. apo. Jerusalem. The seat of authority in these matters.
Matthew 19:21 — wilt be = art willing to be. App-102 . that thou hast = thy property or possession.
