And it came to pass

בְּאַרְבָּעִ֣ים

בְּעַשְׁתֵּֽי־

on the month

[day] of the month

[that] Moses

the children

according to all

had commanded

he had slain

of the Amorites

hā·’ĕ·mō·rî,

bə·ḥeš·bō·wn;

בְּחֶשְׁבּ֑וֹן

in Ashtaroth

bə·‘aš·tā·rōṯ

בְּעַשְׁתָּרֹ֖ת

bə·’eḏ·re·‘î.

בְּאֶדְרֶֽעִי׃

On this side

הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן

hat·tō·w·rāh

you have dwelled

you and take your journey

to the mount

of the Amorites

[the places] near

in the Arabah

bā·‘ă·rā·ḇāh

in the hills

and in the valley

ū·ḇaš·šə·p̄ê·lāh

וּבַשְּׁפֵלָ֥ה

and in the south

ū·ḇan·ne·ḡeḇ

of the Canaanites

hak·kə·na·‘ă·nî

הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙

and to Lebanon

wə·hal·lə·ḇā·nō·wn,

וְהַלְּבָנ֔וֹן

and in and possess

to your fathers

la·’ă·ḇō·ṯê·ḵem

לַאֲבֹ֨תֵיכֶ֜ם

lə·’aḇ·rā·hām

לְאַבְרָהָ֨ם

ū·lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ

וּֽלְיַעֲקֹב֙

and to them and to their offspring

ū·lə·zar·‘ām

וּלְזַרְעָ֖ם

’a·ḥă·rê·hem.

אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם׃

at that time you

I am not able you

myself alone

’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem

has multiplied

and behold [are]

wə·hin·nə·ḵem

you this day

as the stars

כְּכוֹכְבֵ֥י

haš·šā·ma·yim

הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם

of your fathers

’ă·ḇō·w·ṯê·ḵem,

אֲבֽוֹתֵכֶ֗ם

so many more

make you a thousand

as you and bless

he has promised

can I myself alone

your encumbrance

ṭā·rə·ḥă·ḵem

and your burden

ū·maś·śa·’ă·ḵem

וּמַֽשַּׂאֲכֶ֖ם

and your strife

wə·rî·ḇə·ḵem.

וְרִֽיבְכֶֽם׃

and understanding

from your tribes

lə·šiḇ·ṭê·ḵem;

לְשִׁבְטֵיכֶ֑ם

and I will make them

wa·’ă·śî·mêm

וַאֲשִׂימֵ֖ם

bə·rā·šê·ḵem.

בְּרָאשֵׁיכֶֽם׃

And you answered

wat·ta·‘ă·nū

וַֽתַּעֲנ֖וּ

wat·tō·mə·rū,

וַתֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ

you have spoken

דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ

la·‘ă·śō·wṯ.

of your tribes

שִׁבְטֵיכֶ֗ם

over thousands

and captains

over hundreds

and captains

over fifties

and captains

and officers

wə·šō·ṭə·rîm

וְשֹׁטְרִ֖ים

for your tribes

lə·šiḇ·ṭê·ḵem.

לְשִׁבְטֵיכֶֽם׃

And I charged

wā·’ă·ṣaw·weh

šō·p̄ə·ṭê·ḵem,

שֹׁ֣פְטֵיכֶ֔ם

at that time

[the causes] your brothers

ū·šə·p̄aṭ·tem

וּשְׁפַטְתֶּ֣ם

the stranger

the in judgment

bam·miš·pāṭ,

בַּמִּשְׁפָּ֗ט

as well as the great

[but] you shall hear

תִּשְׁמָע֔וּן

do be afraid

the judgment

הַמִּשְׁפָּ֖ט

that the cause

wə·had·dā·ḇār

תַּקְרִב֥וּן

and I will hear

ū·šə·ma‘·tîw.

וּשְׁמַעְתִּֽיו׃

And I commanded

wā·’ă·ṣaw·weh

had·də·ḇā·rîm

הַדְּבָרִ֖ים

you should do

תַּעֲשֽׂוּן׃

when we departed

and we went through

הַמִּדְבָּ֣ר

hag·gā·ḏō·wl

that terrible

wə·han·nō·w·rā

וְהַנּוֹרָ֨א

of the mountain

of the Amorites

hā·’ĕ·mō·rî,

to Kadesh-barnea

You have come

the mountain

of the Amorites

hā·’ĕ·mō·rî,

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā

has said [it]

of your fathers

be discouraged

And you came near

wat·tiq·rə·ḇūn

וַתִּקְרְב֣וּן

wat·tō·mə·rū,

וַתֹּאמְר֗וּ

We will send

lə·p̄ā·nê·nū,

and they shall search us out

wə·yaḥ·pə·rū-

וְיַחְפְּרוּ־

again by what

we must go up

we shall come

and pleased me well

for each tribe

And they turned

way·ya·‘ă·lū

into the mountain

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

and searched it out

way·rag·gə·lū

וַֽיְרַגְּל֖וּ

And they took

in their hands

of the fruit

of the land [it]

and brought down

way·yō·w·ri·ḏū

וַיּוֹרִ֖דוּ

way·yā·ši·ḇū

וַיָּשִׁ֨בוּ

way·yō·mə·rū,

וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ

[It is] a good

do Notwithstanding you would

but rebelled against

’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem.

אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃

And you grumbled

wat·tê·rā·ḡə·nū

וַתֵּרָגְנ֤וּ

in your tents

ḇə·’ā·ho·lê·ḵem

בְאָהֳלֵיכֶם֙

wat·tō·mə·rū,

וַתֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ

בְּשִׂנְאַ֤ת

Because the LORD

he has brought us forth

hō·w·ṣî·’ā·nū

הוֹצִיאָ֖נוּ

out of the land

into the hand

of the Amorites

lə·haš·mî·ḏê·nū.

לְהַשְׁמִידֵֽנוּ׃

our brothers

have discouraged

[is] greater

the cities [are]

baš·šā·mā·yim;

בַּשָּׁמָ֑יִם

and moreover

of the Anakims

we have seen

תַֽעַרְצ֥וּן

’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem

אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙

lip̄·nê·ḵem,

bə·miṣ·ra·yim

בְּמִצְרַ֖יִם

before your eyes

lə·‘ê·nê·ḵem.

לְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃

and in the wilderness

ū·ḇam·miḏ·bār

וּבַמִּדְבָּר֙

you have seen

your God you

’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā,

ham·mā·qō·wm

ū·ḇad·dā·ḇār

ma·’ă·mî·nim,

’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem.

אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃

for you to encamp

la·ḥă·nō·ṯə·ḵem;

לַֽחֲנֹֽתְכֶ֑ם

lar·’ō·ṯə·ḵem

לַרְאֹֽתְכֶם֙

בַּדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙

you should go

and in a cloud

וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע

of your words

דִּבְרֵיכֶ֑ם

and was angry

way·yiq·ṣōp̄

way·yiš·šā·ḇa‘

וַיִּשָּׁבַ֥ע

there shall one

bā·’ă·nā·šîm

בָּאֲנָשִׁ֣ים

haṭ·ṭō·w·ḇāh,

נִשְׁבַּ֔עְתִּי

to your fathers

la·’ă·ḇō·ṯê·ḵem.

לַאֲבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃

of Jephunneh

yir·’en·nāh,

and to him will I give

he has trodden

and to his children

ū·lə·ḇā·nāw;

he has wholly

hiṯ·’an·nap̄

on your account

בִּגְלַלְכֶ֖ם

[But] Joshua

yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā,

yan·ḥi·len·nāh

יַנְחִלֶ֥נָּה

shall cause Israel

יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Moreover your little ones

wə·ṭap·pə·ḵem

and your children

between good

to them will I give it

’et·tə·nen·nāh,

אֶתְּנֶ֔נָּה

shall possess

yî·rā·šū·hā.

יִירָשֽׁוּהָ׃

[as for] turn

and take your journey

into the wilderness

ham·miḏ·bā·rāh

הַמִּדְבָּ֖רָה

and Then you answered

wat·ta·‘ă·nū

וַֽתַּעֲנ֣וּ ׀

wat·tō·mə·rū

וַתֹּאמְר֣וּ

We have sinned

against the LORD

wə·nil·ḥam·nū,

וְנִלְחַ֔מְנוּ

according to all

’ĕ·lō·hê·nū;

And when you had girded on

wat·taḥ·gə·rū,

וַֽתַּחְגְּר֗וּ

on his weapons

mil·ḥam·tōw,

מִלְחַמְתּ֔וֹ

and you were ready

wat·tā·hî·nū

וַתָּהִ֖ינוּ

into the hill

to them Go not up you

ṯil·lā·ḥă·mū,

תִלָּ֣חֲמ֔וּ

for I am not among

bə·qir·bə·ḵem;

בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֑ם

do you be struck

tin·nā·ḡə·p̄ū,

תִּנָּֽגְפ֔וּ

your enemies

’ō·yə·ḇê·ḵem.

אֹיְבֵיכֶֽם׃

wā·’ă·ḏab·bêr

and you would not

שְׁמַעְתֶּ֑ם

but rebelled against

and presumptuously

wat·tā·zi·ḏū

wat·ta·‘ă·lū

into the hill

And came out

the Amorites

that dwelled

in that hill

liq·raṯ·ḵem,

לִקְרַאתְכֶ֔ם

you and chased

way·yir·də·p̄ū

וַיִּרְדְּפ֣וּ

ta·‘ă·śe·nāh

תַּעֲשֶׂ֖ינָה

had·də·ḇō·rîm;

הַדְּבֹרִ֑ים

and destroyed

way·yak·kə·ṯū

וַֽיַּכְּת֥וּ

[even] Hormah

And you returned

wat·tā·šu·ḇū

וַתָּשֻׁ֥בוּ

וַתִּבְכּ֖וּ

but the LORD

to your voice

bə·qō·lə·ḵem,

בְּקֹ֣לְכֶ֔ם

so you stayed

wat·tê·šə·ḇū

וַתֵּשְׁב֥וּ

according to the days

יְשַׁבְתֶּֽם׃
