way·yiš·ma‘,

וַיִּשְׁמַ֗ע

has taken away

of our father

lə·’ā·ḇî·nū;

and [saying] that

from our father

lə·’ā·ḇî·nū,

has he gotten

the attitude

[it was] not

toward [him]

in times past

שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם׃

of your fathers

’ă·ḇō·w·ṯe·ḵā

and to your kindred

ū·lə·mō·w·laḏ·te·ḵā;

וּלְמוֹלַדְתֶּ֑ךָ

and I will be

וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח

ū·lə·lê·’āh;

to the field

the attitude

of your father

in times past

of my father

wə·’at·tê·nāh

I have served

And your father

wa·’ă·ḇî·ḵen

has deceived

wə·he·ḥĕ·lip̄

מַשְׂכֻּרְתִּ֖י

The speckled

śə·ḵā·re·ḵā,

the livestock

The streaked

śə·ḵā·re·ḵā,

the livestock

Thus has taken away

the livestock

of your father

way·yit·ten-

And it came to pass

at the time that

the livestock

then I lifted up

ba·ḥă·lō·wm;

the male goats

hā·‘at·tu·ḏîm

הָֽעַתֻּדִים֙

the livestock

[were] streaked

ū·ḇə·rud·dîm.

וּבְרֻדִּֽים׃

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

in the dream

hā·‘at·tu·ḏîm

הָֽעַתֻּדִים֙

the livestock

[are] streaked

ū·ḇə·rud·dîm;

וּבְרֻדִּ֑ים

you anointed

of your birth

mō·w·laḏ·te·ḵā.

מוֹלַדְתֶּֽךָ׃

And answered

wat·tō·mar·nāh

וַתֹּאמַ֖רְנָה

[Is there] any portion

or inheritance

wə·na·ḥă·lāh

in the house

of our father

nā·ḵə·rî·yō·wṯ

נָכְרִיּ֛וֹת

are we counted

נֶחְשַׁ֥בְנוּ

he has sold us

mə·ḵā·rā·nū;

and has devoured

כַּסְפֵּֽנוּ׃

from our father

mê·’ā·ḇî·nū,

מֵֽאָבִ֔ינוּ

and our children

ū·lə·ḇā·nê·nū;

וּלְבָנֵ֑ינוּ

hag·gə·mal·lîm.

הַגְּמַלִּֽים׃

And he carried away

his livestock

he had gotten

the livestock

of his getting

he had gotten

and had stolen

the household idols

hat·tə·rā·p̄îm

הַתְּרָפִ֖ים

unto her father

lə·’ā·ḇî·hā.

And ran away

hā·’ă·ram·mî;

and he rose up

and crossed over

way·ya·‘ă·ḇōr

[toward] the mount

hag·gil·‘āḏ.

הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

And it was told

haš·šə·lî·šî;

הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י

his brothers

way·yir·dōp̄

וַיִּרְדֹּ֣ף

and they overtook

וַיַּדְבֵּ֥ק

in the hill country

hag·gil·‘āḏ.

הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

hā·’ă·ram·mî

hal·lā·yə·lāh;

and overtook

wə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

in the hill country

his brothers

in the hill country

hag·gil·‘āḏ.

הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

have you done

and you have run away

unawares to me

and carried away

wat·tə·na·hêḡ

kiš·ḇu·yō·wṯ

כִּשְׁבֻי֖וֹת

with the sword

נַחְבֵּ֙אתָ֙

did you flee

that I might have sent you away

wā·’ă·šal·lê·ḥă·ḵā

וָֽאֲשַׁלֵּחֲךָ֛

בְּשִׂמְחָ֥ה

and with songs

וּבְשִׁרִ֖ים

with timbrel

and with harp

ū·ḇə·ḵin·nō·wr.

וּבְכִנּֽוֹר׃

nə·ṭaš·ta·nî,

נְטַשְׁתַּ֔נִי

and my daughers

wə·liḇ·nō·ṯāy;

וְלִבְנֹתָ֑י

you have now

done foolishly

הִסְכַּ֥לְתָּֽ

in [so] doing

in the power

of your father

Take you heed

that you speak

you have gone

you have longed

niḵ·sap̄·tāh

נִכְסַ֖פְתָּה

for the house

of your father

have you stolen

And answered

I was afraid

you would take by force

your daughers

bə·nō·w·ṯe·ḵā

בְּנוֹתֶ֖יךָ

will he live

our brothers

gə·nā·ḇā·ṯam.

גְּנָבָֽתַם׃

into the tent

maidservants

hā·’ă·mā·hōṯ

Then he went

from the tent

into the tent

the household idols

hat·tə·rā·p̄îm,

הַתְּרָפִ֗ים

and put them

wat·tə·śi·mêm

וַתְּשִׂמֵ֛ם

in the saddle

of the camel

and searched

וַיְמַשֵּׁ֥שׁ

And she said

mip·pā·ne·ḵā,

And he searched

וַיְחַפֵּ֕שׂ

the household idols

hat·tə·rā·p̄îm.

הַתְּרָפִֽים׃

And was angry

lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ

and quarreled

and answered

you have so hotly pursued

you have searched

מִשַּׁ֣שְׁתָּ

have you found

your household

and your brothers

wə·’a·ḥe·ḵā;

that they may judge

wə·yō·w·ḵî·ḥū

וְיוֹכִ֖יחוּ

and your she goats

wə·‘iz·ze·ḵā

cast their young

and the rams

of your flock

’ā·ḵā·lə·tî.

אָכָֽלְתִּי׃

That which was torn by wild animals

bore the loss

’ă·ḥaṭ·ṭen·nāh,

אֲחַטֶּ֔נָּה

From my hand

did you require it

tə·ḇaq·šen·nāh;

תְּבַקְשֶׁ֑נָּה

גְּנֻֽבְתִ֣י

וּגְנֻֽבְתִ֖י

and the frost

bal·lā·yə·lāh;

בַּלָּ֑יְלָה

and departed

from my eyes

[I was] in your house

‘ă·ḇaḏ·tî·ḵā

עֲבַדְתִּ֜יךָ

for your two

ḇə·nō·ṯe·ḵā,

for your flock

bə·ṣō·ne·ḵā;

and you have changed

wat·ta·ḥă·lêp̄

מַשְׂכֻּרְתִּ֖י

of my father

and the fear

you had sent me away

šil·laḥ·tā·nî;

שִׁלַּחְתָּ֑נִי

my affliction

and rebuked you

way·yō·w·ḵaḥ

And answered

[These] daughers

hab·bā·nō·wṯ

[are] my daughers

and [these] children

wə·hab·bā·nîm

וְהַבָּנִ֤ים

[are] my children

and [these] livestock

[are] my livestock

and my daughers

wə·liḇ·nō·ṯay

וְלִבְנֹתַ֞י

to their children

they have born

therefore come

and let it be

for a witness

and between me

and set it up

way·rî·me·hā

וַיְרִימֶ֖הָ

[for] a pillar

to his kinsmen

and they took

way·ya·‘ă·śū-

וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־

and they did eat

way·yō·ḵə·lū

וַיֹּ֥אכְלוּ

and called it

Jegar-sahadutha

śā·hă·ḏū·ṯā;

שָׂהֲדוּתָ֑א

wə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ,

[is] a witness

and between me

wə·ham·miṣ·pāh

וְהַמִּצְפָּה֙

and between me

we are absent

from the other

mê·rê·‘ê·hū.

you shall afflict

you shall take

[other] wives

[is] witness

and between me

lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ;

[this] pillar

ha·maṣ·ṣê·ḇāh,

and between me

[be] witness

and [be] witness

[this] pillar

ham·maṣ·ṣê·ḇāh;

הַמַּצֵּבָ֑ה

ham·maṣ·ṣê·ḇāh

הַמַּצֵּבָ֥ה

יִשְׁפְּט֣וּ

of their father

way·yiš·šā·ḇa‘

וַיִּשָּׁבַ֣ע

of his father

וַיִּזְבַּ֨ח

on the mountain

his brothers

and they did eat

way·yō·ḵə·lū

וַיֹּ֣אכְלוּ

and remained all night

way·yā·lî·nū

וַיָּלִ֖ינוּ

on the mountain

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם

in the morning

וַיְנַשֵּׁ֧ק

and his daughers

וְלִבְנוֹתָ֖יו

and departed

and returned

to his place
