1 stir up, excite, τὸν θυμόν Hdt. 7.160.

2. exalt, elevate, εἰς ἡρωϊκὴν ἐπανῆκται τάξιν D. 60.9.

1. bring up, πρὸς τὸ φῶς Pl. Lg. 724a.

2. lead or draw back, τὸ στρατόπεδον ἐς τὴν εὐρυχωρίαν Th. 7.3; ἐ. τὰ δεξιά X. Eq. 12.13; τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἐπανήγαγεν ὡς ὑμᾶς D. 18.133; σύαγρον εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν Antiph. 42 (s.v.l.).

1. intr., withdraw, retreat, X. Cyr. 4.1.3; revert, ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχήν Plb. 3.5.9, etc.; recur, in argument, ὅθεν ἐξέβην Jul. Or. 7.226c; return, ἐπὶ ὕψιστον LXX Si. 17.26; turn back, ἀπὸ δικαιοσύνης εἰς ἁμαρτίαν ib. 26.28.

2. ἐ. τῷ σώματι recover one's health, Apollon.Perg. Con. 1 Praef. put out to sea, τὸ κέρας ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς X. HG 6.2.28: abs., Luke 5:3 : Pass., put to sea against, τινί Hdt. 9.98; ἐπανάγεσθαι ταῖς ναυσί with one's ships, Th. 8.42: abs., Hdt. 7.194, X. HG 2.1.24; ἐπὶ τὴν Χίον ib. 1.6.38; sail up the Nile, Pstrassb. 102.19 (iii B.C.). Pass., also, to be carried to a place, ἐπαναχθέντας Hdt. 4.103, where however the v.l. ἐπαναχθέντες (in signf. iv) is to be preferred.

P Par 63.6 (B.C. 164) (= P Petr III. p. 18) τῶι Δὶ ἱκανῶς ἐπα ̣ν ̣ήγομεν, ";we give ample acknowledgments to Zeus"; (Mahaffy) : cf. ib. .57 ἐπανάγοντα τὸ διστ [α ]ζόμενον ἐπὶ τὸν ἐκκείμενον κανόνα, ";if he applied the doubtful cases to the rule provided for him"; (id.). See also P Vat A.15 (B.C. 168) (= Witkowski .2, p. 65) οὐ γὰρ πάντως δεῖ στενῶς ἐπανάγοντά σε (omit) π ̣ρο ̣σμένειν ἕως τοῦ πορίσαι τι καὶ κατενεγκεῖν.
