I set upon, τινὰ ἐπί τι Hp. Art. 78: abs., (sc. κλίμακι) ibid.; τινὰ ἐν ἅρματι LXX 4 Ki.. 10.16; ἐν ὅπλοις ἀφανῶς ἐ. τὸ στρατιωτικόν J. AJ 18.3.1: — Med., φυλακὴν ἐπεκαθίσαντο had a guard set, Th. 4.130 (ἐπικαθίσταντο Poppo).
II. Intr.,
1. sit upon, πειθώ τις ἐπεκάθιζεν ἐπὶ τοῖς χείλεσι Eup. 94.5; τοῖς καρχησίοις ἐ. light upon, Plu. Them. 12, cf. Thphr. CP 6.10.5.
2.. sit down against, besiege, πόλει Plb. 4.61.6.

Vocabulary of the Greek NT
ἐπικαθίζω is found in the NT only in Matthew 21:7. Cf. ἐπικάθημαι in P Tebt II. 391.11 (A.D. 99) τοὺς ἐν τῇ κώμῃ καταγινομένους καὶ ἐπικαθημένους ἄνδρες (l. –ας), ";the inhabitants of and settlers in the village"; (Edd.).
