In its NT occurrences (1 Timothy 5:24 f., Hebrews 7:14) the προ - of πρόδηλος is intensive rather than temporal, ";perfectly clear,"; ";evident,"; cf. P Oxy II. 237viii. 9 (A.D. 186) τοῦ πράγματος πρ [ο ]δ ̣ήλου γενομένου, Syll 686 (= .3 1073).21 (A.D. 117) ὡς πρόδηλον εἶναι τὴν ἐλπίδα τῆς (subst omitted) ἐπὶ τὸν ἱερώτατον στέφανον αὐτῶι, and IMAe VII. 119, 120 ὁρᾷς θανάτου τὸ πρόδηλον. Similarly with the verb—P Magd 21.10 (B.C. 221) τὴ ]ν προδεδηλωμένην τιμήν, P Ryl II. 109.6 (A.D. 235) πατὴρ τῶ [ν ] δυεῖν προδεδ [η ]λωμένων ἀφηλίκων, ";father of the two minors aforesaid,"; and Aristeas 14 καθὼς προδεδήλωται, ";as already explained.";
