";a water–pot"; (John 2:6 al.) : P Oxy III. 502.37 (A.D. 164) ὑδριῶν καὶ ὅλμου, ";the water-pitchers and trough"; (Edd.). The word is frequently extended to denote a ";jar"; or ";pot"; of any kind, even one for holding money : cf. PSI IV. 428.89 (iii/B.C.) ῥοῶν (";pomegranates";) ὑδρία α ̄, P Oxy I. 155.4 (vi/A.D.) ὑδρίας ἄρτων πέντε, ";five pans of bread,"; Michel 833.100 (B.C. 279) χαλκοῦ ἐπισήμου παντοδαποῦ ἐν ὑδρίαι, and Syll 300 (= .3 646).50 (B.C. 170) ὑδρίας σὺν ἀργυρίω [ι : see Rutherford NP, p. 23. The dim. ὑδρεῖον occurs in BGU I. 117.5 (A.D. 189) ὑ [πάρχ ]ει μοι. . . ὑδρῖον.
