(1) morning, daybreak, dawn [“and even before light, Ruth 3:14 ”], so called from the breaking forth of light; see the root No. 2. (Arab. بَكَرُ, بُكْرَةُ id.; compare the root בָּכַר No. 1 ). אוֹר בֹּקֶר morning light, 2 Samuel 23:4. In acc. adv. in the morning (like the Arab. بَكَرًا), Psalms 5:4 more often בַּבֹּקֶר in the morning, Genesis 19:27 and poetically לַבֹּקֶר Psalms 30:6, 59:17, which is elsewhere עַד בֹּקֶר Deuteronomy 16:4; Psalms 130:6. Job 7:18, every morning; metaph. in the morning, i.e. dawn of prosperity, Job 11:17.

Hence to-morrow, i.q. מָחָר (compare the word אֶמֶשׁ); and adv. to-morrow, Exodus 16:7; Numbers 16:5 (comp. verse 16 Numbers 16:16), i.q. בַּבֹּקֶר 1 Samuel 19:2 used for presently, Psalms 5:4 (in the former hemistich); 90:14 143:8 לַבֹּקֶר id., Psalms 49:15.
