Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

כַּוָּן m. a cake, a small cake [used for idolatrous offerings], Jeremiah 7:18, 44:19 Greek καυών, χαυών, χαβών, a word adopted from the Phœnicio-Shemitic. It is from the root כּוּן, Piel כִּוֵּן (Ch. כַּוֵּן) to prepare; not, as some have supposed, from כָּוָה, like the Greek πόπανον, πέμμα, from πέπτω to cook, bake; for this root has the signification of burning, branding, not cooking.
