Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

נָתַשׁ fut. יִתּשׁ prop. to pluck up plants (see Hophal); hence

(a) to destroy cities, Psalms 9:7 idols, Micah 5:13.

(b) to expel nations from a land (opp. to נָטַע), Deuteronomy 29:27; 1 Kings 14:15; Jeremiah 24:6, וּנְטַעְתִּים וְלֹא אֶתּוֹש “I will plant them, and not pluck them up,” i.e. I will give them settled abodes, and will not expel them; Jeremiah 12:14, 15 Jeremiah 12:15, 42:10 45:4.

Niphal, pass. to be expelled (used of a people), Jeremiah 18:14, 31:40 Amos 9:15 to be overthrown, as a kingdom, Daniel 11:4.

(2) i.q. נָשַׁת (Isaiah 19:5) to dry up, as water, Jeremiah 18:14.

Hophal, to be plucked up, Ezekiel 19:12.
