You show loving-kindness to thousands, but put punishment for the sins of fathers on their children after them. O great and powerful God, the Lord of All is Your name.

They came in and took it for their own. But they did not obey Your voice or walk in Your Law. They did not do anything that You told them to do. So You have made all this trouble come upon them.

They have turned their back to Me, and not their face. I taught them again and again, but they would not listen and learn.

But after this they turned around and took back the male and female servants whom they had set free. They brought them back and made them work for them again as male and female servants.

"At the end of seven years each of you must set free his Hebrew brother, who has been sold to you and has served you for six years. You must send him away from you as a free man." But your fathers did not obey Me, or listen to Me.

But they said, "We will not drink wine. For Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, told us, ‘You and your sons must never drink wine.

You must never build a house. You must never plant seeds. And you must never plant a grape-field or own one. But you must always live in tents. Then you will live many days in the land where you have come to.'

But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against the land, we said, ‘Come and let us go to Jerusalem to get away from the armies of the Chaldeans and the Syrians.' So we are living in Jerusalem."

"The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, telling his sons not to drink wine, are obeyed. They do not drink wine to this day, for they have obeyed their father. But I have spoken to you again and again, yet you have not listened to Me.

And again and again I have sent you all My servants who spoke for Me, saying, ‘Everyone turn now from your sinful way, and do what I tell you to do. Do not go after other gods to worship them. Then you will live in the land I have given to you and to your fathers before you. But you have not turned your ear to listen to Me.

The sons of Jonadab, the son of Rechab, have obeyed what their father told them, but these people have not listened to Me.'"'

So the Lord, the God of All, the God of Israel, says, ‘I am bringing on Judah and on all the people of Jerusalem all the trouble I have said would come upon them. For I spoke to them but they did not listen. I have called them but they did not answer.'"

So they went to the king in the open space, but they had put the book in the room of Elishama the writer. And they told all the words to the king.

Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah begged the king not to burn the book, but he would not listen to them.

And the king told Jerahmeel the king's son, Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to take hold of Baruch the writer and Jeremiah the man of God. But the Lord had hidden them.

But he and his servants and the people of the land would not listen to what the Lord said through Jeremiah the man of God.

But Jeremiah said, "It is a lie! I am not going over to the Babylonians." But Irijah would not listen to him. He took hold of Jeremiah and brought him to the leaders.

But now I ask you to listen, O my lord the king. Hear what I ask, and do not make me return to the house of Jonathan the writer, or I will die there."

"The Lord says, ‘He who stays in this city will die by the sword and by hunger and by disease. But he who goes over to the Babylonians will live. He will get away with his life and live.'

Then the leaders said to the king, "Now let this man be put to death. For he is making the hearts of the men of war weak who are left in this city, and of all the people, by saying such words to them. This man does not care about the well-being of these people, but instead wants them hurt."
