I have overthrown [cities] among you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were as a brand plucked out of the burning: yet you have not returned to me, says Yahweh.

Therefore thus I will do to you, O Israel; [and] because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel.

For, look, he that forms the mountains, and creates the wind, and declares what his thought is to man; that makes the morning darkness, and treads on the high places of the Earth-Yahweh, the God of hosts, is his name.

Seek good, and not evil, that you may live; and so Yahweh, the God of hosts, will be with you, as you say.

Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate: it may be that Yahweh, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

Therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of hosts, the Lord: Wailing shall be in all the broad ways; and they shall say in all the streets, Alas! Alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and a wailing for such as are skillful in lamentation.

Yes, you have borne the tabernacle of your king and the Kewan-your idols, the star of your god which you made to yourselves.

Therefore I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, says Yahweh, whose name is the God of hosts.

The Lord Yahweh has sworn by himself, says Yahweh, the God of hosts: I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces; therefore I will deliver up the city with all that is therein.

For, look, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, says Yahweh, the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.

Those that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, As your god, O Dan, lives; and, As the pilgrimage of Beer-sheba lives; they shall fall, and never rise up again.

And I will plant them on their land, and they shall no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them, says Yahweh your God.

Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man to his god; and they cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it to them. But Jonah had gone down into the innermost parts of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

So the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, What do you mean, O sleeper? arise, call on your God, perhaps God will think on us, that we will not perish.

And he said to them, I am a Hebrew; and I fear Yahweh, the God of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land.

Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh his God out of the insides of the fish.

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; The earth with its bars [closed] on me forever: Yet you have brought up my life from the pit, O Yahweh my God.

And the people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast, and let them cry mightily to God: yes, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.

Who knows whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we will not perish?
