Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, That he might make his mighty power to be known.

They soon forgot his works; They did not wait for his counsel,

Thus they changed their glory For the likeness of an ox that eats grass.

And that was reckoned to him for righteousness, To all generations for evermore.

They angered him also at the waters of Meribah, So that it went ill with Moses for their sakes;

And he remembered for them his covenant, And repented according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses.

BOOK V O give thanks to Yahweh; For he is good; For his loving-kindness [endures] forever.

Oh that men would praise Yahweh for his loving-kindness, And for his wonderful works to the sons of man!

For he satisfies the longing soul, And the hungry soul he fills with good.

Oh that men would praise Yahweh for his loving-kindness, And for his wonderful works to the sons of man!

For he has broken the gates of bronze, And cut the bars of iron in sunder.

For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, Which lifts up the waves thereof.

A fruitful land into a salt desert, For the wickedness of those that dwell therein.

For your loving-kindness is great above the heavens; And your truth [reaches] to the skies.

Give us help against the adversary; For vain is the help of man.

Through God we shall do valiantly: For it is he that will tread down our adversaries.
