Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger; and take his pledge for the sake of a stranger.

He who becomes surety for a man by means of deceitful gain will afterwards have his mouth filled with gravel.

Do not say, I will recompense evil; but wait for the LORD that he may save you.

It is a snare for a man who vows to give something to a holy place, and regrets after he has vowed.

The wicked shall be given as a ransom for the righteous, and the deceitful for the upright.

The desire of the sluggard kills him; for his hands refuse to labor.

The horse may be prepared for the day of battle; but salvation is of the LORD.

The result of humility is reverence for the LORD, and riches and honor and life.

He who has a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he gives of his bread to the poor.

For both of them are pleasant, keep them within you; let them together be made ready on your lips.

For the LORD will plead their cause and avenge the injustice which is done to them.

Do not become a surety for a debt simply because you are ashamed to turn down those who ask you,

For if you have nothing to pay, they will take your bed from under you.

Be not desirous of his food; for his bread is bread of deceit.

For if you should fix your eye on him, you cannot see him; for he makes for himself wings like an eagle and flies away toward the sky.

For he is like him that swallows pitch; in like manner you will eat and drink with him, but his heart is not with you.

Do not speak in the presence of a fool; for he will despise the wisdom of your words.

For their saviour is mighty; he will plead their cause with you.

Do not withhold chastisement from a child; for if you beat him, he will not die.

For when you beat him with the rod, you will deliver his soul from Sheol.
