The fool speaks superficially, but there is no remembrance of the wise man more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is, in the days to come shall be forgotten. And just as the wise man dies, so the fool.

Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous to me; for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

There is a man who labors with wisdom and knowledge and success; and yet he leaves his portion to a man who has not labored for it. This also is vanity and a great misfortune.

For what profit shall a man have of all his labor and of the desire of his heart wherein he has labored under the sun?

For all his days are full of sorrows, and his travail is grief; yea, even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity.

There is nothing better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it is from the hand of the LORD.

For who can eat or who can drink except he?

For, to a man who is good in his presence, God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy; but to the sinner he gives toil, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who is good in the presence of the LORD. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit,

TO everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the sun:

A time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.

I know that there is no good in worldly things, but for men to rejoice and to do good in their lives.

I know that whatsoever the LORD does, it shall be for ever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it; and the LORD has so made it that men should reverence him.

I said in my heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time for every purpose and for every work.

For the same misfortune which befalls the sons of men befalls beasts; even one misfortune befalls them: as the one dies, so dies the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that man has no preeminence over the beast; for all is vanity.

Wherefore I saw that there is nothing better in them but that man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion; for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

When there is but one man, and not a second, and he has neither son nor brother, there is no end to all his labor. Neither are his eves satisfied with riches; neither does he say, For whom am I laboring and denying myself good things? This is also vanity, and a grievous vexation.

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor;

For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls; for there is none to lift him up.

And if one is too strong for him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

LET your conduct be seemly when you go to the house of God; and to draw near to hear is better than the gift offerings of fools; for they know not to do that which is good.
